Sprint credit check process

Dataquest

A friend of mine wants to get an EVO when it comes out on Sprint but has questionable credit. He wants to know if he can go to Sprint and get a pre-screened credit check to see if he is approved or denied now so he doesn't have to wonder for 3 weeks. Also, is it possible to buy the EVO full price and avoid the 2 year contract and credit check? (He did have Sprint around 4 years ago and always paid on time. He is currently on AT&T and has an iPhone 3GS.)
Thank you for any info.

The Account Spending Limit Program works essentially by Sprint depositing X amount of 'credit' on to your account each month. If your bill surpasses this amount--say, by someone stealing your phone and downloading a bunch of crap to it, or by exceeding your alloted amount of minutes or texts--then Sprint will freeze the services on your account in order to prevent the bill from getting outrageously high. This makes bills easier to pay and keeps you in good standing with the company.

Yes he can go into any Sprint store or call into customer care and they can submit his application and let him know exactly what he is approved for and if he has any sort of deposit.

There would be no benefit to buy the phone at full retail price in his situation because he would still have the credit check and an agreement.

As far as the account spending limit, he may be approved for service but be on an ASL account. With the account spending limit, he will have a predetermined amount that his balance must stay below. If it approaches that limit, he will be alerted via text message. If his balance is over his spending limit, his service would be temporarily suspended until his balance was brought back down. This program does have a $4...

The ASL program is an insult! If a customer has bad credit fine charge the appropriate deposit but I've seen first hand how awful this program is and now they charge a fee! Way to go sinking ship! I've never had a carrier charge me a deposit in case someone feels I have an ax to grind.

While I do not totally agree with the $4.99/month charge for the ASL program, the program itself is great. I have seen first hand where it does come into play and saved customer a lot of money.

I don't see how an Account Spending Limit is an insult. Should Visa give someone with poor credit a $10,000 credit limit?

no they should not give them a 10,000 credit line... it should be 100,000!!! but only if they promise to pay it back on time and in full everymonth... they should accept IOU's as well... lol

Another thing, if the phone is purchased at full price, it will still carry the service agreement, as Sprint will not activate a new line of service without an agreement. FYI, the ASL fee is avoidable by agreeing to make automatic monthly payments through the sprint website, and there is a Sprint Free Guarantee that gives him the option to cancel within 30 days and all fees except overage and downloads will be waived.
