Confirmed: New plans will be required for Evo

Just had the Evo training, there will be new 3G/4G plans for Evo phones, both shared and individual. It is a required plan change even in non-4G markets. The specifics of these plans, including pricing, has not yet been released.

Also, the Mobile Hotspot feature will have a mothly charge to use. This will be an add-on cost on top of the new required 3G/4G plans. The cost has not yet been released.

I'm glad we finally know there will be new plans and addons required to use this phone. I wish they'd go on and tell us the cost. I'm worried that it will be bad, since they seem to be so hush-hush about it.

Enthusiasm is great and all but you realize you did not inform anyone of a single new fact right? Everything you said has pretty much been known/assumed already by anyone with common sense.

actually if you read the fine print, it says it will require a simply everything plan, with a extra $10 data charge. does it not state that or is that false advertising?

An additional $10.00 monthly charge will be added to any line with an Evo, just for having the device active. This is in 4G or not.

The Mobile Hotspot will be $29.99/month. It will be able to be used as a hotspot while using voice.

Happy, now?

I'll be happier when someone roots the phone and installs their own mobile hotspot for $0/mo extra. 🙂

In all honesty, I'm disappointed by that. And anticipating the calls.

I'm not too thrilled either, the hotspot service costs Sprint nothing extra; it's a 'just because' charge to keep the connection cards and mobile hotspots as a viable option. One phone broadcasting one 4G connection split up amongst multiple devices costs no more than that same 4G connection being used only by the one phone.

Charging for a service in a city that doesn't have the service available *IS* essentially stealing. No customer should have to pay for a service if it isn't available!

the $10 charge isnt for the 4g service it is to insure that the phone can get the correct amount of bandwith to provide the best internet service and not have a super slow internet ...also the plan for the phone isnt all new it is the same plans sprint offered b4 the everything data with any mobile anytime for 69.99 and the $10 service charge to make it 79.99 or the simply everything plan for 99.99 and the $10 service charge

Oh. Really the only thing I don't like about the Evo is I think a 4.3in screen is way, way too big for a cell phone. I have a Moto Droid and I think this smartphone is plently big, 3.7in is my limit. Plus I prefer smartphones with *real*, *physical*, *slideout* keyboards.

I wonder how much longer it'll be til Sprint comes out with another 4G smartphone?, hmm.

Then don't get the phone.... its that simple... go cry some where else. Do you really think that if they give the customers the option to turn on the 4g and pay the ten dollars when they travel to a 4g market, that they will do it. NO they wont, they will end up going and racking up charges and then calling in to complain about, OH i didn't know, blah blah blah. Its like complaining about a BMW because it takes premium gas only not regular.... if you don't like it then don't get it.

A much better deal with Sprint; not to mention the fact you're getting UNLIMITED 4G vs. limited 3G with verizon.

The point is it's forced 4G even in cities that 4G isn't available! So they are charging for a service that's not available, that's called stealing!

It's stealing to charge someone for a service they can't use where they live, but it isn't stealing to charge someone for a service they don't want and will never use? 😕 If you don't want to pay the extra $$$, don't buy the phone-- it's that simple. At least with Sprint, only a few smartphones require data plans, vs. whore-izon, who charge you data even for their crappy push-to-wait phones.

Forced 3G whether or not you are in ATT's practicly non-existant 3G network. And it's more expensive.

It's an iPhone- Greater than all else in life, and makes a feeble life worth living. Only AT&T and Apple are allowed to put a charge on such importance.

Alright, alright, I concede defeat. I just feel so hurt that I personally cannot experience the awe and power of an iPhone with my current carrier, and feel the need to downplay its importance in today's society. I am truly a sad, empty shell of a person without this miraculous device.

All bow to Apple.
