ok - Sprint has been doing some things right lately and I commend them for that.

However, I gotta know about company owned store training. While waiting for a pizza last night, I popped into the local store.

Some of the info this guy was pushing was just wrong. So- the question is- Do you get sales and product training or do you make it up as you go along? or maybe I am wrong. if so please correct me.

1: Android market has 80k apps? I thought it was more like 20k (on the high end)

2: Sprint can use data and voice at the same time (browse the net while on a call)

3: CDMA is the dominate technology and GSM will be going away. All Euro carriers will be moving to CDMA.

4: Sprint uses 7 towers at one time therefor it holds a c...

On CDMA voice and data run parrallel, so no you can't talk and browse the web at the same time. Android apps have little over a thousand plus, NOT 80k. That's more than Apple's app store. Sprint can only use one tower and will seamlessly transfer over to another tower when out of range. Wow. You should inform his manager of the musinfo he's giving. If he is the manager, God help their customers.

Jake,
The guy definitely has not been paying attention to the training he received.

1) We have no way of knowing how many android apps exist. There are multiple sites that offer them. The number is nowhere near 80,000

2)Sprint cannot do simultaneous voice and data. They could have if they had chosen EVDV instead of EVDO 5 years ago.

3)All 3G products use a CDMA air interface. Even the AT&T and T-Mobile. The data core of the networks are vastly different. CDMA 1XRTT and EVDO are a bit more efficient in their use of bandwidth than WCDMA but they achieve the same thing.

4) What he was referring to is called a rake filter and it is possible for a phone to be registered on 6 towers (highly unlikely due to the distance between towers...

All I am saying is that the creator of EVDO (Qualcomm) has not stated that as a capability of the network. If you are using your Sprint aircard to surf the web and using Googlevoice, Magicjack or another VOIP then yes you can.
If you are using data on an EVDO handset and a call comes in, then the data session is interrupted. If you have found a way to tweak an EVDO handset so that you can talk and surf simultaneously then by all means share with us how you did it.

What phone do you have? I think you might be connected via wifi on your phone and that will be able to let u surf the web and talk at the same time. But i agree with the others you cannot use web and voice at the same time on sprint phones.

Yeah not possible. Only way if if you have Wifi turned on the phone, like the Pre, and a call comes in you can surf the web on your phone and talk at the same time.

Regardless it's still a hell of a lot more than they have for WebOS. That's for sure. Android is the way to go people. I'm tellin ya. Palm was too late. Nobody cares. Read it and weep.

The training offered is pretty good. However, there are a few things that can happen:

1- rep is dumb as bricks and doesn't belong in electronics/wireless/retail

2- rep is shady and doesn't care to learn and then says whatever comes to mind to make a sale

3- area/district doesn't hire enough people so training gets less focus

I see all of these on a daily basis.

he could also be in an iPCS market. Then the answer would be all 3.

The iPCS guy we have around here tells people that anymobile anytime works while roaming, that you get 3g wherever verizon does and that Sprint is the only carrier that prorates ETFs.

Before I get blasted by other indirects....know that I know there are many indirect reps out there that take pride in thier jobs and the respective companies they represent (i.e. Menno). However, we all know that indirect reps do not get the training when they come aboard that corp reps get. My guess would be that this is an indirect store that this person works at. I consistently shop the competition (indirect and corporate) and it would blow you away to know the answers I have heard to the most simple and obvious questions, especially at reseller locations. I once heard a Verizon rep (indirect) tell some Marines who were buying phones from him in the local mall that Verizon has four towers at the corners of the base, and that they block al...

I work for a premium retailer, we don't get the full training corp does, but we get a lot. and our company holds us to what we tell customers. Ive seen reps fired for giving false info before.
