Possible Sprint Buyout by Verizon
anyone think that verizon will purchase sprint. it seems like sprint is the only cdma carrier standing in the way of verizons total domination. Look at it logically, helio, virgin mobile, and most other cdma mvno's go threw sprint. So to eliminate all competion they buy sprint and have cornered the market. also as soon as verizon bought alltell there is talks of our roaming rates getting doubled? maybe thats another step to put sprint out of the way and into a serious hurt. What do you think. Believe me i love sprint, but it just seems like at this point why wouldnt they.

Sprint can’t afford Verizon especially with their awful credit rating. In addition, regulatory bodies wouldn’t approve this deal without major divestitures, which would make it almost worthless. I think DT’s T-mobile would buy out Sprint just to keep up with AT&T and Verizon. Roaming rates will go up but that will also have to be worked out with the FCC and other regulators with the current deal that Alltel and Sprint have together. Remember Alltel also has other roaming deals with AT&T, T-mobile and others. Therefore, that will affect everyone.
Sprint will be hurt from this transaction if it goes through.

i was talking about sprint being bought by verizon

Well I wanted to cover that angle first.
With Verizon buying out Sprint? That won’t happen either. Let’s say the Alltel buyout goes through with divestitures then if Verizon and Sprint merger the divestitures would be bigger than the AT&T Wireless/Cingular merger especially when you include their landline operations. Why would Verizon want Sprint after buying out Alltel? Doesn’t make sense. Could it happen? Of course but the probability might be in the low single digits and in the lower single digits to pass regulatory approval.

because then verizon would control pretty much all cdma usage in the u.s. there would be almost no competition, and a lot more money for them with sprints 50 plus million subscribers
