I have only had Sprint for a few months, however, I am trying to understand the upgrade discount. If the discount doesn't come off the 2 year price like with verizon, then what good is it? Any thoughts would be great.

after 11 months of continous service, (no upgrade withing 11 months) you would qualify for $75 off the retail price of a new phone.
After 22 months without an Upgrade, you qualify for $150 off the retail price (full price) of a new phone. you cant combine your 75 and 150, its either or. Most retail locations can take off the $150 off the retailm but once you hit the 22 month price your also entitled to the prices you see online. Only thing to that is, you must upgrade your phone online...

Thanx, however, I understand that part. The part I don't understand is what good is the upgrade discount if you can't use it to take off the 2 year contract price a new customer gets.

Well personally, I dont agree with that either. But Sprint would be losing too much money. Thats a personal opinion and i do not speak on behalf of alllll of Sprint. If you look at the new customer price, it mostly varies between $0-$249.99

by taking $150 off the promotional price, most customers would receive the equiment for free or a couple of dollars plus possibly even a remainding credit, therefore Sprint losing money to manufacturers when those phones can be targeted towards revenue and new customers to the network. Thats what i always believed, but again i am placing a personal opinion buddy

I appreciate the answers from everyone so far. The reason I had to ask was because Verizon offers the upgrade discounts and it comes off the new 2 year price.

I know....that would be a sweet deal but i would rather pay a lower monthly price on my data and plan for 23 months than to get an awesome price on my phone 2 years later...i believe i would be saving much more money over the span of 23 months compared to Verizon, than i would save when i purchase the phone...

That would definately be awesome! but take for example if you do the Simply Everything with Sprint, and the Unlimited data text, etc with Verizon, you would come out saving $880 a year over Verizon. I would put those pennies in the piggy bank and bust it open after 22 months! ha ha get yourself several phone ๐Ÿ˜ˆ
but your right bro, you cant always get what you want and cant always get both โ˜น๏ธ

No problem. I know how it is. The only issue I have with the Simply everything plan is the price for both me and my wife. That is alot for 2 people to share. I mean my bill is already $150 a month. While it is only $50 more, that $50 can get me stuff I need for my son and pay some bills. Know what I mean.

I'm guessing for what you're paying now, you probably have the 2100 minute plan? Unless both of you talk a lot on your cells, that's probably better for you than paying 200 bucks a month for two Simply Everything plans.

It would be 195 for two lines on Simply everything. If data isn't a necessity, 175 for two lines to share unlim talk and messaging.

The way sprint looks at it is when you were a new customer, you recieved the new customer discount. It would deffently be nice to have the upgrade discount deduct from the new customer discount but according to sprint, they really dont make to much money on phones due to the major discounts offered.

Actually if you are eligible for the full two year upgrade (i.e $150 off for two year agreement) you would actually be eligible for the additional mail in rebates as advertised online for new customers. I have done I dont know how many customers that did BOGO offeres for the rumor last month and they got the online price with the full two year upgrade. I hope that helps you..

after 12 months your recieve a 75.00 discount off of the retail price of any phone. after 23 months of being with sprint, you get 150.00 discount off the cost of any phone. of course you have to sign a 2 year contract and there is an $18.00 upgrade fee.

so not only does the new cust get a better price on the phone than the guy who has already been with sprint for 2 yrs, but the guy who has been with them has to pay another $18 to use his discount to pay more for a new phone than the new guy.

gee sprint, awesome cust service and retention plan (unfortunately i have them)

so i guess in december when my contract is up and i can upgrade, i'm just gonna cancel and get a new contract and new number and get a phone for cheaper and not pay any upgrade fees, yea i'll have to pay activation, but it'll still prolly be cheaper in the end

Wow, you get the same price at the 22+ mark that a new customer gets - The only difference is that you get 1/2 the cost of the activation that a new customer gets - Your activation cost is $18 compared to a new customer one of $36 or $26 - Hmm, so as a current customer, you are getting a better deal!! ๐Ÿ˜ฒ

I never understood why people are so concerned about what the new customers are getting. It's better to get a discount or none at all which would you take. " So you're telling me someone with no service if they walk in here brand new they get it for the cheaper price?" Ugh yeah weren't you that new person at some point? just because the tables are turned it's supposed to be a different policy for you. Nope

The company makes more money off of people that renew their contracts for two years and new customers because they're adding money to the plate. Tmobile does the same as well as the other companies.

True, I signed up for Direct TV a month later they had a better deal. When I called to switch to that deal they basically shot me down. My contract is up soon, if I decide to renew I'll do my research 1st. Thank you I can use the cable companies as examples now with those customers who say why are the new customers getting the same deal. I rather have the same deal than to be treated like a worthless custie.

That's a $65/month savings... times 22 months = 1430.

Discounts on phones= ~$150- 300 per phone... times two phones= $300- 600...

Difference of $830 + tax...

If you go to a RadioShack store that sells Sprint, they can afford to eat the price and offer you the same discount price of a 2 year. (Exept if there is a mail in rebate involved.) But most of the time you will be able to get the same 2year price as you would when signing a new contract. No $75 or $150 BULL!
