I'm looking to switch from verizon to sprint. enough is enough vzw, its time we go our separate ways,... BUT I really want to keep my handset. SO does anyone know how I could go about flashing my samsung sch-990 to sprint. is it possible with that phone? I would sell my soul to have that phone and sprint service! so any educated help would be awesome... thanks in advance

You will NOT be able to use anything but a Sprint branded handset on their network. Only those phones with the ESNs loaded into Sprint's data base can be activated on their network.

sorry to say but there is no way around it.

there is a reason you never find these people who can add esn's to the database. THEY DONT EXIST.

you simply cannot add a single esn in to our system.

its the sasme thing as trying to use a sprint phone on verizon.

is it technically possible? yes.

does it get asked all the time? yes.

does ANYONE at sprint (that you can talk to) have access to that database? NO.

everyone says they have a friend of a friend that can do it, but the fact is, those esn's are entered in by the thousands when they are made. there is no way to enter a single esn.

i can see why you like that phone, but since you wont be able to use it, might i suggest the M610? its a bit thinner, with most of the same features.

The only logical way to do it would be to buy a sprint phone and clone the esn to your old phone this however is not a good solution i know with p2k software released for motorola phones u could change the esn also alot of other values on the phone not sure about any other brand of phones.

does anyone honestly know anyone who has made the esn switch-over?? I WANT TO KEEP HOPE! i love that phone dearly!

i disagree, i take pictures all the time. i'm a novice caretaker for four turtles so i take pictures of their shells regularly to check with the experts and make sure there's nothing to be concerned with. the pictures come out very clear, much clearer than my actual digital camera. low light pictures are of questionable quality, i'll give you that, but the video and still pictures, muy bueno.

i have 500+ mp4s on my 1gig transflash card, and i'm just getting started...

i am willing to take bets whether or not you can use your a990.

i think i have conveyed the fact that i know what i am talking about. this guy is wrong, no one in a callcenter can add a single ESN to our vast database of ESNs. its all false hope. just give up.

mobile_trojan

Jun 20, 2007, 6:29 PM
yes, LOTS of people have switched phones over to other carriers. for example, from cingular to tmobile. there is a reason. these are GSM carriers. GSM carriers are now required by law to allow you to "unlock" their phones (under certain circumstances) to use them on other carriers. with that said, this is only possible in the US with T-Mobile and AT&T currently. Sprint and Verizon use CDMA, and are hence NOT required to allow this to happen.

as i have said, it is possible in theory, but then again, so is cold fusion.

there is no "unlocking" of CDMA phones, regardless of what anyone tells you. they are lying, or just ignorant.

yours is a path of squandered hope. give up now PLEASE. i am really tired of this thread.

Jun 20, 2007, 8:50 PM
The only time I was able to use a sprint phone on another carrier was a local carrier in Beaufort sc. They had the cable and could reprogram (put there software on it and UI) the phone and add the esn since they are a local carrier. However that was 4 years ago and things may have changed. But as far as the big guys sprint and verizon it is never going to happen.

i cant wait til you are sorely disappointed. you can submit any and all kinds of forms to anyone you want. those forms are for phones that were transferred over to Qwest, and they want it back on sprint. you are NOT going to get a verizon phone to work thru any official or unofficial channels.

i will admit that there MIGHT be one way to make it work, but it has NOT SH!T to do with sprint adding the ESN, cuz like i said, it wont happen.

now i just need someone to ask me how to do what im talking about...

well, since you asked so nicely, here is my suggestion. keep in mind that you risk bricking any and all devices that you try this on, and that i have only seen it successfully done on windows mobile devices.

you need a good hex-editor. you hack the crap out of your phone, and change the esn. you change the esn to whatever your ACTUAL esn is for your active sprint phone. you would then turn the sprint phone off, and use your a990 just as if it were the sprint phone. also, good luck programming it.

are you beginning to see why i said to just give up? you will come to see that there is a reason i say the things i say.

Holmes, as a strong word of caution, do not under any circumstances divulge the serial number of your handset.

Secondly, the means and time necessary of even going about attempting what you wish to do are just not worth it.

Yes, it's a very nice phone . I'm sure you invested a pretty penny in it, hell I wish Sprint carried that very model but the cellular Gods have chosen not to shine their light upon us this day.

I'm glad to hear you joined up with Sprint, and I'm sure there is a model in the ranks that will more than meet your needs.

Well honestly, the transfer CAN be done, but it isnt worth it...you cant do anything except voice and SMS. Having a phone with so many features and not having the ability to take advantage of them is almost the same as having the same as having any basic phones. You know the Mogul? (PPC 6800) i can get that to you for Employee pricing at $288.99...or whatever phone you want, i can set you up with good discounts on equipment and accesories...But lemme know which route you wanna take =D

yea, i know, i failed.

i actually looked into PDAnet briefly. it does not appear to support Mac OS.

i dont know why i didnt think of it sooner, but try this just for fun:

1. start - programs - Modem-Link - select USB in the dropdown - activate.

2. plug in the phone.

3. say a little prayer.

4. hope the mac pops up and says "New port detected"

if that happens, then you can set it to dial #777 with no username and pw, and it should work.

if not, then i still failed. its always nice to try the simple things tho.

Holmes there MAY be a way for you to use your Sprint engineer, corp security, or Gary Forsee. If you are non of the above GOOD LUCK. I don't believe any of corp security or engineers would risk their jobs to use a non branded Sprint phone. mobile_trojan is VERY reliable source in Phonescoop's Sprint forums. He is one of the very few that I rely on. Let's just say sprint-2007's tech can re-flash your phone. Once he or she re-flashes the phone, most likely it's going to give him a one time lock code that will allow him to program the MDN correctly, and not the MSID. these two numbers need to match up in Sprint's system that will allow a phone to work. I don't believe re-flashing the phone will change the platform of J2ME to BREW. The phone's d...
