The kiosk chaos

digitmasher

Mar 1, 2007, 8:38 PM
So, I went into work yesterday to receive a memo from Sprint Nextel explaining to me and my co workers that all of the Sprint Nextel kiosk locations across the country are being purchased and restructured into franchise locations. All 130 some kiosks will become Enhanced Wireless, which will become Sprint's largest exclusive dealer once the transition is complete.

Here is the kicker, as of right now none of those employees that work at the kiosk locations are able to relocate to another corporate location, we are being offered positions with Enhanced or nothing. No severance package if we were to leave, no transferring, and our only option is to take a position with this dealer.

Granted this is still in the early stages but the impres...

I was in a similar boat last year when I worked in one of the Sprint land line(LEC) retail stores in sales. We basically were told that our stores were getting spun off to become a new company with the leadership of Dan R. Hesse(former AT&T Wireless President & CEO) at the helm since Sprint Nextel had to divest one of it's business units and seeing how land line didn't play into the big scheme of things for them, Embarq was born. Here I am almost a year later now in the wireless security side for them. Be thankful and grateful digitmasher you are at least being given the offer of employment with Enhanced Wireless as I'm sure some of those 5,000 Sprint employees across the country who are going to be axed shortly who would love to be in your ...

Those 5k plus people at least received a severance package. I feel like my co-workers and I are being strong-armed into this situation. I can see if ALL of the retail stores were to go through this transition, but I think it's a bit unfair to single out the kiosk locations. As for those who are getting the axe I honestly dont think they will stick with the industry. I would love to but if I'm going to I want to stay within the corporate realm. I've already worked with cingular and t mobile. and to frank I actually see alot more potential with Sprint.

In your situation it was your division of the company that was spun off, not just select locations.

I have to agree with digitmasher. I work in TX and not all kiosk locations got sold to Enhanced Wirless, some were completely closed and most reps were absorbed by near by Sprint stores. Upper Mgnt wants to act like 'they' didnt know of this transaction yet, mgrs from other near by 3rd party kiosks were aware, even the radioshack mgr knew of it. And to add to the injury, we still continue to get emails from SMs and RSMs indicating openings at other stores due to short head count, yet we at the kiosks are locked from requesting a transfer. i cant even find a website or info on Enhanced Wireless. Its BS i say!!!

Dirty e you just touched on a point that I recently discovered and has me in a whirlwind. I recently moved into a new apartment and as a result my commute to work is now almost an hour long. I put in for a transfer to a destination store that is two miles away from where I live now, but since I was informed by my district manager I wasn't going to be able to transfer due to my currebt location being short staffed.

I was patient and hung in there but now that this conversion is happen in combination with being told that I can't transfer (even while I see numerous posted openings for stores that are much closer) has really begun to frustrate me. In my district we had a musical chairs session with the district managers which made it more di...

a couple questions i would be concerned with, will pay be the same? will net activations and commission stay as well or any word that it will restructured? and the last question i would like to know is will you still recieve your free plan or will they give you a plan like 3rd party with just a discounted rate plan? cause saving $70 a month doesnt seem like much but it sure helps not to have another bill.

The details of our compensation with the new company have yet to be discussed with us. I would certainly like to make the same as I do now and be able to keep my free line of service.

My bigger concern with this matter is that I moved into an apt at the beginning of the year and have since been requesting to transfer to one of the two locations that are a maximum of three miles away. My commute now is an hour in one direction.

The request wasn't fulfilled and now this bomb drops. I'm certainly am not going to continue to drive an hour to work because there won't be any Enhaced locations for me to transfer to because the locations near me are destination stores.

that does seem crazy though, because technically it would seem that you would be eligible for rehire through sprint because of this sitituation, not like you got fired or something bad like that and being that you would be working for another company you could resubmit a resume' to be a rehire with sprint. but i have seen crazier things. the nextel store that got shut down gave all the employees their severence package and we wanted to hire this guy from there and because he took the package wasnt eligible for rehire through sprint again.

you all are cry babies...Sprint cares about its employees, although when it comes to making decisions that better the company well anyone is at risk! The company has to make decsions that will make the business work 110%

so bottom line it is not personal its business... and hes right because of that situation .. that does make you eligible for "REhire" w/ sprint....

I'm just curious to see what the letter says that's all and yes, I do make it a point to find out the identities of rogue Sprint employees who post prorietary company information here at Phone Scoop as well as at other wireless related sites such as Howard Forums and Phone News. I've so far been able to forward roughly 15-20 names to our security team along with my findings and let them decide if an investigation was warranted. Folks! Thought we were intelligent and expressing our opinions on this miserable turn of events that have taken place at the Sprint Palace.

From my vantage point it seems like Sprint has run the kiosk business (which was primarily Nextel based in its loyality}, into the ground. Now, someone who believes that the convenience factor for the customer, especially the NEW Sprint Nextel customer, will be the saving grace for these kiosks.

Digitmasher, let's face it, a company as large as Sprint does not give a damn about the little guys on the front line. I have been with the company 3 years and had 120 hours of pto. I even tried to transfer to a store that was closing and they would not let me. I just really dislike the way Sprint is handling the whole situation. Another fact is that I work at a very low volume store about less than 60 phones a month.
