nextel and sprint joining ptt
True SMS

Thanks!
Spectrum Trivia (new 1900 band)
This means a network overlay, more towers to be added, all-new phones, and probably a new technology altogether (not iDEN, maybe CDMA).
The cool thing about 1900 (for Nextel) is that equipment costs should be lower, since they can tap into the huge existing market for 1900 MHz gear. In other words, what people have been saying is that Nextel will be able to use the same CDMA 1900 tower equipment that Sprint and Verizon buy, and the same CDMA 1900, phones, etc.
This means economies of scale and huge cost savings. This should finally rid them once and for all of the "iDEN tax" that comes from supporting R&D for basically their own technol...

Two of the five members of the Federal Communications Commission have voted in favor of a controversial proposal to give Nextel Communications Inc. the right to use the cellular airwaves it wants at the price it wants to pay, according to people close to the commission and the industry.
Those people said they expect the deal to get the additional vote it needs to pass as soon as today.
Reston-based Nextel's future depends on moving to less cluttered airwaves than those it now shares with police and fire emergency communications across the country. Bu...

CHARLES WERNER
Just when you think its safe to go back in the woods, you realize that there are more wolves passing themselves off as trusted grandmothers.

This week, public safety officials from across the country sent emails and made calls to Congress and the FCC. It appears that since the FCC has gone "sunshine" on this issue (meaning that no more lobbying the FCC) that a decision at their July 8th meeting may be imminent. I think the answer to "CAN YOU HEAR ME NOW?", Is a resounding YES.
However, the ...
