from the article that I have read, it bans the use of your electronic device with or without handsfree units. I understand the concept and agree to it at a degree. Holding a phone, texting on the phone is completely a no no. Having a hands free unit either built into your vehicle or a single earpeice unit should be allowed. I drive a 1 1/2 hrs to and from work and I live in the country. I talk to my wife to company and she is there if I need or have a emergancy. Good and Bad to the whole thing.

That is why your phone provides 911 service, for that emergency. I agree with this ban 100%. Speaking with your loved one is normally not a case of life and death, so possibly killing somebody to do that should be something that you are not willing to do. Even Hands free, you are not paying 100% attention to the road, or to your duty to have care and control over your vehicle at all times.

Using the excuse that you are not using your body does not mean that your focus is 100%, as you would certianly be using your mind when speaking.

It has happened before, so, this begs the question, are you willing to possibly kill somebody because of your own carelessness just to say hi to your wife / child?

No, this is not an extreme example...
