This has been an ongoing issue for years in transportation for years. Truckers and other commerical vechicles need to keep in constant communication with shippers and vendors to insure deliveries are made on time and if there is changes to the loads. There are many more passenger cars on the road than trucks. Truckers and other large vechicle drivers studies have shown that we think at a different rate, due to the processing of constant information given to us. Most truckers are owner operators, this means they own the company.

NTSB needs to visit cellphones as a whole not just to a few truckers. Make it safe for everybody.

Maybe we can get MAC and Mary Kay to teach women not to put on makeup while driving, and gilette to teach men n...

And you can not eat, change the radio, put in a tape/CD, talk to any one and blink or sneeze!

I really dont care if you think at a different rate - I'm not willing to put my life on the line so you can make your delivery on time. I'm sure everybody else agrees.

Still doesn't dismiss the fact that drivers of larger vehicles should be paying attention to the road 100% of the time.

I agree, it should be a 100% ban across the board for all drivers. Cellphone usage should be restricted to Bluetooth usage.

I'm from California and we already have laws in place but because the fine is so low, people still gab away on their phones. I personally believe it should be a fine in excess of $1000 with a mandatory driver safety class of 5 days included. That will surely stop the idiotic Soccer Moms I see driving their SUV's, gabbing away on their phones and drinking their lattes.

Until a serious penalty is enforces, people will continue to talk away on their cellphones.

Wow. Never run for office, I will NOT be voting for you.

"...it should be a fine in excess of $1000 with a mandatory driver safety class of 5 days included..."

Where do you live, the United $tates of Rich america? $1000.00 for using your phone while driving? And how much would jaywalking be, $150.00? I'm seriously sick of republicans. Your recomendation is ridiculous in its entirety.

The only way to change a dangerous behavior is to have penalties in place that actually will matter. Driving while distracted is just the same as driving while impaired...and both should care consequences harsh enough for people NOT to do them. It has nothing to do with being a Republican or Democrat....it has to do with common sense.
