Smoke and mirrors?

I would really like to see the numbers of jobs they really do phan on bringing back to the States. I used to be a Chief Steward for one of the locals at AT&T, and they were still pushing jobs overseas when I was there in 2008. I want to see proof on paper, with an action plan and short-term time table to bring those jobs back. If they don't plan on bringing them back for several years? I'm calling their bluff.

They promised the same thing when At&t merged with SBC! Later they claimed there weren't enough qualified people in the united states! At&t has the same ceo that said the above statement last time! I hope the fcc doesn't buy it!!

This whole thing is a charade. "If" ATT hires this many workers, how many will be permanent? It is normal for a corporation to hire in order to help with transitions and reorganize the structures of additional expansions. Temp agencies, outside contracts etc, are all part of these things. Many of the other jobs will just be shuffled from Tmobile to ATT. This creates an illusion that "new" jobs were added to ATT but in reality, the jobs were already on a payroll somewhere else. Once the dust settles, many will unfortunately; lose their jobs.

Frankly, I'm very annoyed and disgusted with this entire proposed merge. ATT has been caught in at least two lies and information leaks. This is also a company that had no prior interest in Tmobile un...

I'm with you on this John, this is total BS. Plain and simple and sadly, it's looking like a sure thing that this merger will go through. I'd be surprised if the FCC said no to be honest.

AT&T is rebuilding their Monopoly that was broken up back in the 80's. Sigh... 😕

Some highlights from the article...

"This independent analysis debunks assertions made by AT&T that their proposed takeover of T-Mobile would be good for American jobs. The study reveals that this acquisition will almost certainly lead to the elimination of thousands of American jobs as the company works to lower its capital expenditures by $10 billion. Assuming AT&T's net capital investment falls by $5 billion, it would result in job destruction of 34,000 to 60,000 using EPI's own analysis ..."

The study also sites AT&T's history of job eliminations, following its other acquisitions.

I've had ATT and currently with TMO, can't say I've ever had a problem with either one. I do think as well that jobs will be lost. I live in Salem Oregon where TMO has a call center, I'm sure it'll close within a year of the merger if approved. I believe there's between 300-400 jobs there right now. And I know 5 people that work there... so for now I say boo on the merger and let the people keep their jobs!
