This just isn't worth a whopping $109! Anybody who is willing to pay this price must be very, very rich and have money they can waiste.

If it works for more than one model, it could be a good investment, a good charger could last years and years.....but if it only works for the Thunderbolt it is not worth the money..it makes no economic sense to pay almost as much for the charger as you do for the phone itself when you know the phone will only last you 12-18 months before you upgrade again.

Yes, it uses the Qi standard, which ensures compatibility among different devices.

It does not involve wires. Therefore it is wireless.

but doesnt the pad itself have to be connected?? so arent there wires?? im not into this i like docks mainly cuz androids have a cool clock app that makes ur phone seem like an alarm clock lol but that aside qi i think will really take off if they were to incoperate it in sumthing bigger like imagine having a table on a desk in your living room you have a few friends over and u all lay your phones on the desk and there charging that would be better course thats the general idea and will take a few years 🤭

when i first read an article on QI this was the concept that they were hoping for by modern standards its not possible ur right many tables with magnets would probably mess with it as is im not happy with QI and i probably wont buy a charger unless my sisters phone the lg g2x and my next phone and possibly my parents next phones all support this and then ill buy it if only to encourage sales so they can take the next step it be useful to have downstairs while were working to charge that way but for just one phone i dont think its 2 expensive im just hoping it catches on this could eventually lead to that and much more 😁

Well, yes, the pad needs to plug into the wall. Until houses come with wireless power walls (which has questionable safety) something will always need to plug into an outlet.

This add some convenience as you can simply lay it down and pick it up at any time, without fiddling with a cable. If you lay your phone down on your desk at work, but pick it up often, are you as likely to plug it in to charge? I'm not. But if setting it down = charging, I'd be much more likely to charge during the day. Right now I only charge when I go to bed, so I'm not plugging/unplugging all day. This might change that.

The idea of this built into desks is neat, but I don't see it happening, except in cafés, etc.

Cars, however... I think it would be ext...

Also an important point. My wife and my dad have had phones they had to replace sooner than planned when the charging port broke prob from plugging and unplugging the phone soooo often. So this charging pad may have lengthen the life of the phone.

I like my Mot Droid original since I can dock it at night into the charging station and have it look and work like a clock/alarm clock. I go thru the effort to plug the phone in every time I plan to drive in my car for more than 5 minutes so charging my phone at the office on a pad as described here would also be a nice plus to me also.

HP has already been using this technology, and they have it so that wen you set it on the charger it displays like the Motodock.

That's like saying, "The cell site is connected to a fiber optic line, so it's not a wireless phone!"

Ridiculous, huh?

If it's wireless between the portable, end-user equipment and the next link in the system- it's wireless!

P.S. I'm an inductive power hater like you. I think these things are a stupid gimmick that will waste millions of dollars in evaporated energy for the sake of "not having a cord." Just make the blasted phones two millimeters thicker and put in bigger batteries! It's not that hard a problem to solve unless you're fixated on "skinny" like Apple is.

I wonder what Freud would have to ...

i get the whole pad concept and im just pointing out the obious on purpose and yea a agree with you 1st the pricing is ridiculous for a pad that fits only one phone instead of one that can fit like 4 that would be great

im just saying id rather they try this out like on a desk tho the idea seems impossible at the moment im sure it can be done how awsome would it be if you could pick up a nightstand that plugged into a wall and of course a few years from now but imagin charging your phone laptop tv remotes all by laying them there thats the real future lol

Why are you accusing people of being well-to-do? There is nothing wrong with having money. If someone wants to drop $109 on a charger or $50 on a Porterhouse steak at a steakhouse, it's their right. If someone wants to go cheap, they go cheap.

I'm just saying to spend that much on a charger (or a steak) someone would have to have a whole lot of money to throw around. Cause most people who make $25k-$60k are too smart with their $$$ to spend it on a charger, when you can get a micro-usb charger on Amzaon for $7 or less.

Is a microUSB charger wireless? Ummmmm...no

Will a microUSB charger work for the NEXT phone you get, and the next one, and the next one after that or are you going to have to buy a new one for every phone?

At least for the next five years, unless you buy an ApplePhone.

P.S. There are no less than three completely incompatible "standards" for wireless charging trying to make their groove in the marketplace right now. The Verizon charging pad could very easily got the way of the HD-DVD a year from now and force everyone to pay another $75 for the new Apple charging pad.

Maybe, provided it doesn't change...

But the other problem is that charging by USB port is slower than charging from an electrical outlet.

The other problem is that if the little charging outlet on the side of your phone should break, and all you have is USB charger, you're basically stuck buying a new phone, but if you have a charging pad....no problem.

What good is a charging pad if one needs to acquire a special cover for the phone in order to use it? Obviously, not all phones have it available and not everyone wants them.

Dude, do you have any idea how slow these charging pads are going to be? Even compared to a computer's USB port? I've not seen any scientific analysis done on them, but it looks like the Touchstone takes somewhere between two and five hours to charge a Palm Pre.

Why? Here's a quick question for you-

Which is a better electrical conductor:

Copper wires or Nitrogen gas (which represents over 70% of our atmosphere)?

Hint- Nitrogen gas is so inert and non-responsive to almost every chemical/electrical interaction that th...

Copper wires, of course. But what does Nitrogen gas have to do with it? The pads should use a magnetic field and coil, which will work in a complete vacuum.
