the at&t revival idea sounds like a corporate loophole to maintain 2 different cellular liscences in 1 area, thus creating additional revenue for big poppa cingular wireless while sidestepping the fcc's rules

The important question is. When do we get to see some of this cash!!!!! AT&T needs to make up their damn mind about what they are going to do. And hey if they found a loophole more power to em. 😁

AT&T...they are morons....first off back when the parent company bought out TCI Cable...then the stock voters said to split up the companies...big mistake!! The way it should have been was to keep AT&T whole with everything...but now that they sold AT&T Broadband and now AT&T Wireless...they are kicking themselves in the A$% right now because they could have bought more and grew as well. Oh well such as life!!

🙄 Is that why AT&T have so many new promotions going on especially advertised on this site 🤣 Does anyone know what will happen with current AT&T wireless customers when the merge takes place? Will they be able to keep their plans because AT&T does have better plans than Cingular, just not a good coverage area. I'm with Verizon Wireless right now but will be switching to Cingular in about 2 weeks. Good idea or what? Please let me know! 😕

Unless Cingular is willing to let AT&T Wireless customers out of their contrcts, the plans will have to remain unchanged, as per the terms and conditions, any changes can be made, but they must allow customers a 30 day window to cancel the contract. It's like when AT&T Wireless started billing in 30 second increments vs the 60 second, it changed the terms of the agreement, so they had to allow customers the ability to cancel without penalty.

probably would be a better idea to switch to AT&T, so you can get thier unlimited MTM, their customer first promise program, unlimited N&W! the n&w for them is going to be changing to 7pm in the next month or so. the unlimited MTM is ending on april 17th. if you're going to switch, you should get all that, cuz when cingular merges, you'll either keep all that, and then have your options with whatever they offer, or be let our of your contract!

Used to have Cingular for several years (when it was still Pacific Bell Mobile). The service was good, but when it switched to the Cingular brand, it was horrible.

You are asking for a big headache if you switch. Verizon and CDMA provide the best reception and area coverage. And recently, Verizon offered free IN-network calling (aka unlimited mobile to mobile). Keep Verizon. They are the best.

🙂 I agree. I have had AT&T and there coverage is in adaquite. In many of the areas I could not use my AT&T phone I have had no problem with my Verizon phone service. There customer service is also great.

😕 Whats the reason you are leaving Verizon. Have you heard of the new IN program they have? You can call anyone on the network and it will not take from your Mins. Sounds like a great deal to me. I guess you have to decide if you know enough people with verizon and if you want the better service area they provide compared to AT&T. You may want to look into those issues before you change carriers.

att wireless spun off from att in 2001 and cingular just bought att wireless. att corp or att long distance wants to start up or buy a wireless company and re name it att wireless. the spin off of att wireless had to change their name eventually and probably one of the reasons they sold out to cingular instead of changing their name and still struggle. it's not a conspiracy

if at&t comes to an agreement w/ any wireless carrier (whether cingular or not) to provide cellular service using another company's (that already owns a liscence in that area) equipment/towers that does create a multiple a scenario in which the providing company is possessing an unfair market share!
partial conspiracy

Not really. A MVNO is exactly what Virgin Mobile does - they resell Sprint PCS' network. This is no different from AT&T Corp (not a wireless company, and not affiliated with AT&T Wireless any more than they are with Verizon!), reselling service on another carrier's network. This other network could be Sprint, Cingular, Verizon, or anyone else.... Qwest Wireless is also doing this through Sprint PCS' network.

Not at all; it's no loophole or conspiracy.

AT&T Wireless is already a completely independent company from AT&T. The only current relationship is that AT&T lets AT&T Wireless use their brand and logo, and they have a bundling arrangement that lets people get wireline and wireless service on one bill. They're separate companies, though.

After Cingular absorbs AT&T Wireless, the "AT&T Wireless" brand disappears along with the company, and the old AT&T company is free to lend its brand to a different wireless company, or start its own.

So they will start an MVNO, which is a wireless company that handles only retail, billing, and support. The network, infrastructure, and spectrum are handled by an existing carrier.

Virgin and Qwest a...
