Isn't that actually a DECREASE?

When I worked for at&t the early upgrade charge was $75, and it didn't matter if it was for a smartphone or a feature phone, it was $75 period.

If it is now only $50 for smartphones and $10 for feature phones that sounds like the charge has been REDUCED.

You're looking at it backwards. The reason it was a $75 charge was because the phones generally got discounted down 150 bucks, so it's actually a 75 discount at that point.

Now they're not going to discount them as much on early upgrades.

Sorry, I was trying to be a bit cheeky....

The article seems to say that the early upgrade fee is now $50 for smartphones and $10 for feature phones....in fact, it is actually $150 for smartphones and $110 for feature phones, the article didn't make that clear...

you both have it wrong. I work for AT&T, and the cost of an early upgrade was previously $75 for a standard phone or $200 for a smartphone. Now it will be $85 for a standard phone and $250 for a smartphone.
