I can't think of any companies that don't do similar things when it comes to redeeming incentives.
You have to send in for rebates...
Register for warranties...
Sign up online for extras...
With DirecTV, I had to call and cancel my extra free channels if I didn't want to keep them after the free period...
And I don't think it will be a problem for customers honestly. I feel bad for Sprint phone reps because the last few times I called for something small, they went into this ridiculously long education process about everything to do with my account... So I'm sure they'll be flogged into telling everyone about the process to get your service credit.

You go to a website and type your phone number in. I'm sure some people will forget and as a rep I wish they'd auto-apply the credit but it's still a great offer and a very simple process if they just had to have one.
