Shouldn't the title read "LTE, WiMax AND HSPA+"
I mean, according to the article;
"It is recognized that [4G], while undefined, may also be applied to the forerunners of these technologies, LTE and WiMax, and to other evolved 3G technologies providing a substantial level of improvement in performance and capabilities with respect to the initial third generation systems now deployed."
I don't know how you would describe HSPA+ as anything but an "evolved 3G technology."
...
Well, the ITU specifically calls out LTE and WiMax as being "OK" for the 4G label. My guess it it left room for Long Term HSPA Evolution to qualify as 4G.
Does HSPA+ count? I think it depends. Right now, AT&T offers HSPA+ at 7.2Mbps. Would you consider that to be 4G? I sure as hell don't.
The line is fuzzy enough that I'm not going to make any assumptions.

"and to other evolved 3G technologies providing a substantial level of improvement in performance and capabilities with respect to the initial third generation systems now deployed"
I would say that at&t's current HSPA+ does not provide any substantial level of improvement over its existing 3g network.

There can't be any "Fuzzy" area in the definition. That is like saying that if an adult had sex with a 16 year old, it is ok because the 16 year old is very mature for their age.
Speed is only one of many ingredients in the complex nature of 4G.

I guess it depends upon what state the sex takes place in and if it is consensual. Oh yeah and if the adult is a woman it is highly unlikely that a jury will convict her. The criminal justice system DOES have a double standard.

Been to Sprint's website lately? They say WiMax is currently 3-6 megs. If AT&T is running 7.2, how do you not consider that better?
...
ATT's 7.2mbps hspa+ is the theoretical max. Real world speeds are slower.
Those Wimax numbers are real-world figures.
Also, my name is Eric, not Rich.

I'm consistently getting 7-9megs on wimax speed tests. This will slow down some with network load. But yeah, wimax is fast. As wimax and Ltd improve its going to be harder and harder for older networks to keep up. 3gs networks simply don't have the capacity of a true ofdm network.
...
that because HSPA+ is not MIMO technology
THIS IS EXACTLY LIKE ATT TRYING TO SAY EDGE IS 3G
