Long Term HSPA Evolution isnt LTE?

LTE isn't backwards compatible with HSPA. That means if TMO or ATT used LTE then their older phones would not benefit at all from them upgrading their networks. Since Long Term HSPA Evolution is backwards compatible then people with older phones would benefit some from this upgrade.

Ummm, that is what backwards compatible means. It means the later technology is usable with the older hardware.


Example, Xbox360 is backwards compatible with some old xbox games.

So T-mobile could mean that old phones would be backwards compatible with the new LTEHSPA towers, OR they could mean that the new technology is compatible with the existing towers.

I would think they mean the first option. The reason this is good, is because most T-mo phones support at least hspa now. If T-mo has to switch to LTE in the future, what would be the reason to stay, if you have to buy a new phone and a new contract why not go to a difference carrier. By making it backwards compatible, people don't have to switch carriers. Thus Tmo s...
