this offering looks to be a game changer. 4g capable, bluetooth tethering to your smartphone, wireless N, no adapter needed for hdmi and most important it wont be sold through the carriers so they cant gut the features to pad their pockets. the next 6 months will be very interesting in the tablet business.

Thde wifi version won't be sold through a carrier, but I betcha when RIM comes out with a 3G/4G version that it'll be sold through a carrier with contract.

i dont think so. the key is the ability of the playbook to connect to your blackberry smartphone thru bluetooth and share your data. why would you need a seperate data plan. thats what makes this a game changer. this tablet supports your blackberry smartphone, it does not replace it.

Yeah, that was a very smart thing of RIM to do.

But, will carriers require a separate data plan for it? I suspect so.

You will be "stealing" data from your Blackberry therefore negating the need for seperate data package. RIM is basically giving the finger to the carrier with this option

They are coming out with 3G/4G options second half of 2011, I can't imagine why RIM would ONLY be trying to market this to existing Blackberry owners. Of course it will tether, but carriers are absolutely going to be offering data packages exclusively for this device.

"are you special"

or did you not read the article?

no one said it would be offered by the carriers. or even asked if it would be offered by them. The origional question was;

But, will carriers require a separate data plan for it? I suspect so.

That's retarded. How are they giving the carriers the finger, bro? It's like an accessory for your existing phone. I don't see how its "stealing" data from your BB. It's "sharing" the connection. 🙄 The argument can be made that the customer is paying for data and a connection with their phone and should not be limited as to how they use it. If I have 2GB of data on my BB, why can't I use half on my BB Bold and half on my PlayBook? Or use all of it on the Bold? It should be the customer's choice.

Oh wait, you are looking to unnecessarily milk more money out of your customer instead of using this to build value to offer a broader range of devices to your customers and increase your data device mix, thus increasing your commissions... n...

you clearly missed my point of my statement. I am all for "sharing" the connection. I don't want to pay for a data plan when i purchase this thing. I give the carriers the finger myself everyday when I leave work

This is good looking tablet, but why did RIM not use these specs for their phones instead?
