Oh, thats cool. Can I use this EVO on Verizon then? Or the Droid X on Sprint?

Short answer... no.
(well, I guess the long answer is also no)

How are these phones unlocked again?

The phones are "unlocked" its the network that doesn't allow them. If you knew the right person, they could put the ESN into the allowed devices list and you could EVO it up on big red.

Yeah, I think it's more so that the devices are unlocked, but the other carrier doesn't take them...which is the same as being locked lol.

Really now? The EVO on Verizon, Cricket, etc..??

What about the SPC code Sprint puts in ALL there phones? That doesn't sound "unlocked" to to me.

You either have to get the SPC from Sprint, which is like pulling teeth. or Hack it from the phone. Which is becoming a pain in the ass.

Sprint now even blocks reading the phones memory on Blackberry's were we can't even hack the SPC from it.

Verizon is even getting into the game too with their Blackberry's.. The code used to allow unsigned service book writing does not work on most of the Storm 2's

Unlocked my a$$

You can register any ESN/MEID onto any CDMA network and you will get basic Call and SMS.

However, any data dependent services will be a black hole as the data configuration settings tend to be a black hole for CDMA. I've never done it with smart phones before, but a lot of it is hard coded into the phone EFS on feature phones.

It's not like GSM where you can send down an XML file to configure the phone.
