Keep your personal life and your business life separate and still only carry one device. Who wants to start making dual-sim smart phones?

I know this is all in good fun, but to be a little serious here, this is an area of property rights that haven't been too clearly defined.

Physical property rights ALWAYS has to trump abstract property rights. Most likely, in a dual-SIM phone scenario, it would depend on who purchased the phone. Otherwise, they would have to subpoena the cell phone records from the company(which I don't know how realistic this is for digging up text messages since this stuff gets buried in a flurry of log messages).

Companies and Gov't agencies that pay ones cell phone bill is a nice perk, but these people ought to realize that all that not their property and they should use some discretion.

I just really like dual-sim phones instead of carrying multiple devices. I think people need to realize that business phones, computers, emails...it can all be monitored and come back to haunt you. Take steps to protect your privacy and even though this applies to public companies...similar forethought applies toward private companies.

I was just pointing out that the property rights issues for dual SIM phones are probably still somewhat hazy.

Most of dual SIM's primary use case right now is in poorer countries where people tend to aggressively price shop different carriers and frequently switch between two different services to get a better price. Although with simultaneous access, that might be changing.

Unfortunately, carriers in the US don't want you shopping two different services for their subsidized phones. I doubt this kind of feature will be available any time soon.

On top of that, many of the dual SIM phones are low end phones(given the market), which means you may not get a higher end phone you might want even if you were willing to purchase an unlock...

2 active cellular radios where you can call, text, on different networks or at least get separate billing for each sim. A lot of difference than Google Voice or Skype on a handset.

That would great if the company's phone service is AT&T or T-Mobile. That won't work if the company uses Sprint or Verizon Wireless. My last job provided select employees Sprint phones. So those employees would need 2 phones to separate business & personal use.

If the company uses Nextel (more likely scenario). Nextel already has second line service.

Nextel has offered second line service on the same phone for years. Your employer gets a bill for their number, and you get one for yours.
