What would really be useful, would be if Sprint uses this type of software to...

That would be impossible friend...verizon is a CDMA network and nextel is iDEN and the technologies are incompatible, that is why sprint's marriage with nextel was such an epic fail.

With two exceptions -- hybrid phones (CDMA and iDEN radios) from the icX02 series, and the QCHAT "Nextel Direct Connect on Sprint" phones which have been discontinued for a reason (they're not that good unless you're in excellent EVDO coverage all the time).
Besides, if you need a radio that bad on the job site, buy 22 mile radios for $40 a pop. If you need national/international walkie talkie... well... why?

CB radios had the same problem. I was bored one day and looked up the history of CB radios. I was curious why nobody but truckers use them. It's because there was a time when there was so much people using CB that you could hardly get a chance to talk. Due to the over crowding and new technologies coming out, CB faded away, but isn't extinct.
Then walkie-talkie came out, same problem happened. Not only people on the road had them, friends and family members at parks and shopping areas were useing them as well. By the time walkie-talkie manufacturers started releasing radios with more channels and privacy codes it was too late, cell phones had already taken over.
Now the cell phone industry is trying to give walkie-talkie new life...
