Bad bad move on Sprints part

The NFL is such an exclusive property, Sprint made a horrible decision here. You can not stream NFL games anywhere unless you buy into NFL.com's field pass. Having the option to listen to any game was a big draw for Sprint, and one of the few exclusive things that had. This decision will come back to haunt them.

I totally agree! Not to mention the consistent brand exposure during NFL broadcasts on TV. Gah it drives me crazy, Sprint stop shooting yourself in the foot (or face)!

It could be bad for people who own a cellphone for NFL mobile strictly. Working in a retail store I can tell you that I personally never see anyone come in for that particular issue.

Yes it was good for advertising, but for the same cost we spend on sponsoring the NFL, we could also use that money better in other places. To be competitive in a market you don't exactly need the best advertising, I'm glad we're considering our options here.

I can tell you for a fact it was one of the reasons I went with Sprint over Verizon, and then this goes through, I will be porting to Verizon. The NFL is the most popular sport in this country (no matter how much baseball and basketball want to try to claim they are) and because of that, the NFL is a monopoly. They tightly control EVERY aspect of their business. Because of this, people who do not live close to the teams they follow are forced to pay outrageous fees for either the Sunday ticket or fees to listen to their games online. The league does not even allow stations which carry the games over normal radio to stream their stations online when the game is on.

The only outlet for people out of market was Sprint's NFL package. I...

Good devices, great service, and competitive prices is a better move IMO. More people care less about the NFL than do in this country.

But needless to say, Sprint will lose customers over this.

I hope they don't loose this app, or the NFL Network for that matter

Honestly I'm not worried about Sprint losing many customers over this, but I think they will miss out on the brand exposure that they had with the NFL. Every game I watched there were Sprint logos and ads. I had friends ask me about it and I would bust out my phone and show them how I track my teams and fantasy players; they thought it was cool. They didn't all sign up with Sprint in droves but I know for a fact that Sprint wasn't just some "also ran" in their minds and may influence future purchasing decisions.

I dunno, I don't like it. How much were they forking out for the NFL contract?

Verizon spent 743 million for it. If Sprint were to outbid Verizon the price would have probably gone close to or above 1 billion. I don't think this sponsorship was worth that much to Sprint. Those that leave won't be a big loss since Sprint will not be spending that large sum of money. I used the NFL app once in the 5 years I have been with Sprint. That was just when I was playing with a new phone and tried out all the apps on the phone.

I have to agree with Caucasian on this one. Working in a retail store for Sprint/Nextel I can't say I know too many people that actually use the NFL network let alone sign up with Sprint just for that reason. When I sell a device that is capable of the NFL mobile I explain to them what it offers and 9/10 times the response is "why would I want to watch the game on that little screen?" More people are excited about the NASCAR App over it, at least in the area I sell in. Plus side to those that are still looking for that kind of app, Sprint is still going to have some sort of professional/college football coverage.

Do I think this will hurt Sprint? Some, but it was never a deal breaker not having it in the beginning. It was a great featu...
