Good luck....making a smarter phone does not make users less dumb

I don't remember one instance where I, or anyone else for that matter, was accidentally charged for data traffic. The only times we got screwed was when our kids got a hold of our phones, it was our fault and we paid for it..

Do not buy a smartphone period if you have no intention of using data.
If you do buy one, then it is mandatory to have one included on your plan.
Don't say your dogs paw accidentally navigated to woof-woof.com and it was not your fault. Phones don't do that on their own. 🤣

I have been charged on more than one account for accidentally opening up the mobile web (option 4 in the Media Center menu) when I wanted to open up my VZNav (option 5 in the Media Center menu). Every time, I have hit the end key approximately 87 times, and the page closes before it even loads - and every time, I have been charged $1.99 for accessing the internet without a data plan.

Too bad I don't live in Jersey... 🙂

I believe that has happened with VZW. I was just having a chat with Dick Cheney and his media conspiracy!

Huh??? What point? Am i talking to Forrest Gump? Your low IQ answer has my high intellect stumped. I guess you are crazy like a fox you crafty SOB! You stumped me with that one. Though I get the Pelosi reference, you’re a genius! And yes, I voted for Obama. But before that, I voted for McCain when he was running against Bush in the Primaries. I don't choose a side and run my mouth because my team said so. I educate myself on an issue before i start bantering wildly about the other side.

So you voted for McCain in 2000 and then Obama in 2008? Sounds like you lost your way there for a while, unless of course you decided you like socialism now.

I do enjoy socialistic ideas. Marx was a genious! No buttle, I voted for the lesser of two evils at the time. For the Dems it was Gore for sure, and either Bush or McCain on the Republican side. I knew Bush was a big dumb puppet from day one! It was either gonna be Bush (actually Cheney as I saw it) or McCain versus Gore. And Gore didn't do it for me!

Makes sense to me. At least you know where you stand and what you're looking for. I may not agree- but at least you think things through. (Though I do disagree about Cheney being Bush's string puller- I think he was handled by the same people.)

Same people Obama is pulled by. The same people every administration is. But wait...none of this is on television? I forgot. The answer is the Banks (oil companies are not the biggest player), in case some of you didn't know.

Doesn't VZ navigator download maps through the data network? if you dont have a data plan then this could be why you have a data charge.

It does. In fact, if you READ it, it tells you before you download it that it will require data charges plus the monthly fee. After you READ it you have to choose accept or decline. In fact, all the programs I've seen have this same exact warning. I think, generally, VZW has everything covered, people are just trying to find loop holes. Isn't that fun?

I don't know about Verizon, but a lot of other carriers insist that phone manufacturers put a permanent shortcut to the web on phone's home screen. Some Samsungs actually replace the center menu button with a web shortcut. You don't have to be dumb to do it.

I like having a shortcut to a web browser, but then again I have a data plan and don't risk $2 for accidental keystrokes. If you don't want an Internet shortcut, you should be able to remove it, but so many of these carrier-branded phones are locked down.

I do customer service for at&t. many phones have one button internet access with no way to disable it. A few have the capability to create bogus medianet profiles which will produce an error message rather than a web page and a data charge. I'm pretty sure at&t is making millions of these charges.
