What about other non-voice functions? Things like the navigator, mp3 player, or other apps? Is there any evidence that using a phone for a GPS is any more risky than using a standalone GPS? Just about every trucker has satellite radio, what about using the Sirius/XM app or a streaming service?

I understand the spirit of the law, but it's just too hard to enforce.

I think using an mp3 player or gps device is equivelent to tuning a car stereo. Texting requires more attention. I know personally I have gone miles while texting and then thought 'wow how did I get here'... I think that was stupid of me...

I agree, and I am not pointing fingers here - but what about Smoking, Changing the radio station, adjusting the heating/cooling, etc. All these are distractions also - so why just pinpoint texting? It makes the cellphone industry look we are to blame.

I understand and agree that texting and driving, talking and driving, etc is bad to do and has killed lives, but people do other things then just text/drive & text and it also has killed lives.

no man, texting is way bad... how many people say
I lite a smoke and not sure how i got here or
I changed the radio sation and not sure how i got here

i think your overlooking the pda population - text is text and email is text

...just does not equal the distraction and emotion of texting is far greater than other issues

They target cellphones because they have the most media attention, thus the highest chance of raising money/getting votes
