Ok I am fine with capitolism and the like but come on Verizon. Stop Whining...and acting like you can not afford to operate. Cant handle the unlimited data, then SUCK IT UP and fix your netwrok and technology. Stop trying to make up excuses to raise rates, my goodness.
All these posts with "options" and metered plans...not gonna happen the cost of ownership is too high already in most households.
This is a major contract and service change I would totally cancel my service with them if they tried this mess....
Unlimited data means unlimited, if you cant handle it then move over for a company that can....

They are not changing anything on 3G. They are talking about 4G. Even if they were considering new 3G options those on existing plans would be grandfathered.

so there.

Actually, if you would have read the EULA and your TOS, both will state that "unlimited" isn't really unlimited because it will based upon an arbitrary figure determined by the provider... which typically is about 2-6 GB.

At that point they will cancel your service and may/may not charge you an ETF. You can su...

You are partially right, they can terminate you, but you wouldn't have to pay the ETF.

I know that there are some carriers worldwide that if you abuse "unlimited data", they will cancel you, I just wasn't sure if they were American or not.

It depends on how you abuse it. If you are using your phone as a tether excessively they'll typically give you a per use charge (as in whatever it is per kb) and terminate. They don't typically charge early term though.. but I saw it once (guy was tethering his phone to a wifi router... that was a fun bill)

Sprint did it a few years ago to customers who used too much tech support or complained to much. And there was no ETF. I guess in the long run it was easier and cheaper to get rid of malcontents.

They are saying that in the Future, it will be impossible to handle truly unlimited plans profitably. They are saying NOTHING about current 3g phones.

Seriously, reading a post before commenting helps you understand things,

I read the post Menno you are a mess 🙄 and still think its bogus even it its not targeted at my device....right now....
Even if they implement this going forward there is not as much "grandfathering protection" as there used to be.
I have verizon and love the service, but now question a lot of their business practices. As a consumer..I can.

Actually there is.. keep with your current device and you never have to change your price plan. No, you can't stay on old plans without resorting to some pretty crazy measures (or choosing from only one or two phones).

As a consumer you can, that's correct, but being a consumer doesn't mean you can reserve the right to be ignorant and cry fowl when something happens you don't understand.

When we get devices that can connect to the net at 15+MB/s, when there is no easy way to detect tethering.. heck, when tethering is obsolete.. do you have any idea how much data you'll consume? I still run on a 786k DSL modem and I stream a TON of content a month from Hulu, I play games online, and I've been known to download a movie or two from i...
