I bought (or attempted to buy) a friend a Palm Pre for her birthday and had to deal with 15 minutes of not one but TWO Sprint employees telling me not to get it because they're "really crappy." Ended up not even buying a phone so "I could do additional research" - aka, it's really awkward buying a phone when someone's telling you it's a POS. I went to a Sprint "authorized reseller" later and got the same shtick "Oh everyone who is buying them is returning them."

Sprint, this is your flagship phone. You've got Android, but with VZW's giant marketing push you're left carying the also-ran Android hansets on an also-ran platform. How the hell is Sprint able to sell ANY smartphones?

The reps are biased and ignorant. I'm a Sprint rep and ask all my customers who consider a smart phone what's their purpose/use for the phone. Many 1st generation phones sometimes have problems(or being politically/sales person correct)ISSUES. But the 1st gen Pre has been solid. The 1st couple from launch month were iffy(hardware). But since then Palm has improved on the current supply. The software(webOS) has been solid and app number has gone from a couple dozen at launch to over 720 as of right now. The Android platform has been out since I believe Oct 07, so it has had time to mature in the app development(around 14,000).

Right now the Android platform is the "In phone/ popular" to get. Mainly because of the incredible and ingenious c...

I own a Pre and shortcomings/sluggishness/Sprint aside, I love it as a second phone. But I had Sprint reps telling me if I purchased it I'd be dealing with everything from speakerphone failure to having my data wiped out and losing all of my contacts. It's like buying from a phone from a (competing platform) fanboy.

That's why it's important to do your own research into potential problems and NOT listen to the baggy jeans salespunks.

I was buying it as a gift and the recipient was with me- even though I know better, it's kind of like "Here's your present- by the way, ignore the thing the guy who sells them for a living says about them...."

The WEB OS as stated by many expert companies and sites (gizmodo - cnet - pcworld magazine) says the PRE is on level with any smart phone and its ability to muli-task is untouched - Most people who get it love it and I am using the Palm Pixi and love it. I am a Sprint employee and know the WEB OS phones arent at all crappy. 🙂
