I just played with one (I work for VZB) and I was not impressed with the hardware. It is much smaller than I would have expected with the current trend in phones. I don't know the exact measurements but it seemed significantly smaller in my hand than the HTC Imagio it was however very responsive but the menus seems confusing to me. It was my first experience with an Android phone and I only got about 5 min with it.

Ah okay that's probably why. I like the Hero even though it's on a carrier I despise greatly. It takes time to adjust to Android. It's probably because since it's open source, it doesn't quite have the finish as other OS's do like WimMO and iPhoneOS.

My issues were not with the OS, although it would take some getting used to. The menu's and navigation seemed a lot different than what I am used to. The hardware is what I had the real issue with. I have big hands and the phone just felt to small to me.

Menus=os

The Eris is marketed at people who want flashier phone, and want some of the benefits of a smartphone (browser, push notifications) imo. I think the "droid" will be a hit with men, and the "eris" will be a hit with women (though people will buy both.. remember the pearl?)

not Necessarily. The Eris isn't a feminine handset per se. I'm a guy and I'm really thinking about getting the Eris.

The Sense UI is more polished than stock google experience interface, and HTC packed in T9. Though I've used several "smartphones" from the Q to palm treos both win and palm OS, I've always had a dumbphone with a plain 0-9 keypad as my primary handset and I'm hooked on T9. Amen to HTC for bringing that onboard the Eris thanks to sense UI. Thats good enough reason right there for me to choose it over the Motodroid. Quick one handed texting is the one thing that most smart phones don't seem to accomodate very well.
Even though the Motodroid has 2.0 eclair, with google maps navigation, the Eris won't be far behind. HTC is wor...

Yeah, I had to bite my tongue when I'd get a 6'6" 300 kid wanting to buy the Mint Chocolate. Different strokes for different folks.

It beats the pants off of the Motorola Droid. Really, I was impressed with the performance of the Eris, especially given how much people seemed to downtalk it when discussing Motorola's offering.

Despite the rave reviews for the Droid, it IS STILL a Motorola. My unfortunate personal experience ranks Motorola just above Kyocera and Pantech. So yeah...I'd take HTC over Motorola.

Sad but true. I have never had any luck with Motorola. But damn that Moto Droid sure looks nice.
