Goodbye 20$ data plan, hello 80$ data plan.

Most programs are blocked by companies because they require huge chunks of the bandwidth. Take streaming video for example or torrent services. All of those take huge chunks of bandwidth. By allowing an “open internet” one of 3 things will happen.

1 a limit to the amount of data you can use each month with hefty overage.

2 the mobile internet will get really slow because people can now do any thing they want on it stream music of video or download songs of movies to there mobile devices.

3 The price of service will drastically increase. This will be because companies like Sprint Verizon and ATT will have to run more data lines to there over 200,000 + cell sites. This way every ones internet can still keep up to speed.

Good points to consider. However, without NN companies would start capping data and possibly introduce "tier" pricing (paying extra money to visit certain sites) Time Warner has already talked about doing this and wireless companies are ALREADY jacking up prices as you describe and there are no NN rules set up. I don't wanna pay an extra $10 to access Facebook because the companies say it uses too much bandwith, and what qualifications would a website meet to say it uses too much bandwith?

Yes the system is taxed as is. However, with rising prices as it stands with no NN rules, why are companies not reinvesting the money to improve the infrastucture? Since the companies can block whatever sites they want, there is no incentive to improve ...

Time Warner can't do that anyways. Did you read this document. It clearly states that internet for home computers are already forced to not have a cap so what they are wanting is for cell phones to be limitless as well.

Yes, option number one is what will happen. Carriers will institute tiered data plans w/ increasing price points for increasing bandwidth quotas.

This is nothing to decry. It will allow the vast majority of subs to select data plans that better fit their particular needs, rather than be forced to accept "one size fits all" data plans. In fact, some wil...

Sprint sold its towers to some other company. I cant remember the name but it was on phonescoop. They no longer maintenance their towers. So that will be left up to them and their budget. Sprint was two steps ahead of the game. 😉

Sprint sold the towers (real estate) not their bandwidth.

You are correct Sprint sold its towers, in other words sprint sold the plot of land it was leasing and the physical structures that stand upon them. Sprint still has to pay for all the back hall (data lines) and facilities (switches router servers ect) to run their network. Most people have no idea what goes into running a wireless company and how expensive the network alone costs. Since we are talking about Sprint, last year 7 out of every 10$ that Sprint s...
