Because this shows exactly the lack of intelligence Verizon operates with.

BREW is a horrible application environment offering little to no benefit over J2ME. Yes, the iPhone has a proprietary programming environment too, but it is successful because it's Cocoa-based- far superior to that crap. The Blackberry uses Java, so how they expect the app store to work on this smattering of handhelds and devices that use different environments sounds like a complete train wreck.

Brew is one platform they operate with. They are going to start supporting java as well.

They want to make one platform for everyone to access the programs available. Obviously not every program will be on every platform. But having a one stop shop will be more convenient for people than setting up a paypal account for Blackberry, an itunes account for apple, etc.

BREW is only in regards to dumbphones anyways. It wont touch PDAs.

BREW is just one of the platforms they'll continue supporting, they'll support other platforms too.

I agree BREW isn't great, but non-smartphone like the LG Env3 will start getting apps too because of this which is always welcome. Develepors will have more tools to work with and higher sale volume too.

Besides, if you hate BREW so much just don't buy apps from Verizon.

Sounds like a good moneymaker to me 😁

Any carrier that you could think of has a number of different platforms under it's roof
