Not big on specifics, are they?

I hope it's sooner rather than later--I really want a Blackberry with 3G.

I'm guessing Summer, June/July.

Personally I'm looking forward to aircards doing speeds better than 2mbps.

I agree Sprint CS may suck balls and even some extra, BUT...it can't be denied that their data network is far superior to that of any current wireless carrier, with only VZW coming close (Rev A coverage in most parts of the US is superior to 3G in less than half of the available coverage). It's not just about having great CS, it's also about coverage and price. Sprint has the price and the coverage (people can't deny that, yes you may experience poor reception in some areas but overall if your with Sprint you may as well not worry about not being able to make a call) as much as I hate to admit it that can not be beat, look up SERO plans, now they just need clean up their CS Dept. and shake off the bad reputation that took them many years to ...

There is going to be another EDGE update (announced by Nokia last week) that's going to reamp current EDGE speeds to 600kbps. It still remains to be seen if AT&T will apply this update to its network. But if they do, then I think it's safe to say that our EDGE phones will soon be reaching almost 3G speeds.

That's interesting, because all the test that I've read matching Rev A and HSPDA, HSPDA wins hands down. Rev A has a faster initial connection speed, but once both are running. HSPDA wins. Rev A averages about 800kbps while HSPDA averages about 1.1mbps.

Other problems with Sprint it is not a world carrier, has ugly phones, and it does noy have the iPhone.

Sorry meant HSDPA, always get that confused...

Yes, HSDPA has a faster speed when it can achieve that point. However, like i said what good is faster when it is only available in a very limited number of markets. As far as HSDPA "actually" being faster, HSDPA is not consitent with it's speed, Rev A has the same potential to achieve speeds of up to 3.1 Mb/sec. Keep in mind, that if you travel outside of your city, your HADPA coverage is no where until you hit another large market.
Can you please PM the QA/research data for the HSPDA speed consitency results? Did they also do latency tests? I don't want to be preaching the wrong info, and if it is true that HSDPA can maintain 1.1Mb/sec (never actually seen data state that), then if you are in a 3G area it may be worth it, but current cove...

What's the point of great coverage on a carrier that can't turn a profit? Do you really think that giving away the world to your customers will save them?

It didn't work for AT&T Wireless and it won't save Sprint. They are a dying carrier. Get your cheap deals while you can! :-)

No, I don't think that it will save them (loosing more money than they are worth?!?! Who does that?), but for those that don't need to use CS all the time and are more interested in getting the most for their money Sprint is the lesser of two evils. I would still prefer AT&T, but their data network was no match to VZW or Sprint on a national scale.

Does anyone take into account that in order to be a 3g device phones must be able to make a voice call and access data simultaneously. That is what has always held up Palm and other manufacturers.....Does Sprint offer simultaneous access to voice and data???

No, it does not, WiMax is I believe where that may appear. However, 3G is NOT required to allow for sim. data and voice; 3G is for speed...GSM is the only one to be able to offer simultaneous data and voice, and that is do to it's packet system. It is nice to have the ability to do data and vocie at the same time, but it is misinformation to state that it is a requirement for it to be 3G. "Palm and other manufactures" are powerless as far as allowing data and voice simultaneously on their devices, its is all in the hands of the carrier and what technology they use.
Also if we want to get technical AT&T's 3G is really 3.5G technology.

It does say blackberry and i am interested in blackberrys. Really whats the need for this article if its common sense that ATT will only sell 3g phones from here on out, like if they would really sell more 2g smartphones.

I think they will, there are still people who do not care about data access, all they want to do is make a phone call.

Though the Blackberry 9000 look sweet, but supposedly the battery life sucks.

3G will be rolled out in most mid-major markets in a couple of months!

Then, when it's not rolled out in a couple of months, it'll be a couple months from then. You get the idea? It's always just a couple of months away. If you live in a town of about 75-100,000 people like I do, expect 3G on your phone about the same time New Yorkers are enjoying the speeds of 4G.
