Microsoft Updates Windows Mobile to 6.1

Still waiting for the brave new world

The world is changing in portable devices but not fast enough it seems. Right now as in the past, carriers have always had direct control over phones that use their proprietary networks. These closed networks were necessary early on but now with recent changes at Verizon and the debut of the iPhone we are finally seeing more control for the users having a say over what devices they use and how they use it.

It's very disappointing to see that such a minor update to Windows Mobile 6 is over 6 months away mainly because of carrier approval and testing that needs to be done. My 8525 waited for an eternity for the FREE WM6 upgrade while AT&T went through testing. Imagine if you had to wait months for every Windows Update on your PC to be appro...

i have had many issues with windows updates on my pc, most times make it slower or make errors oppening applications.
I consider a benefit that manufacturer test software and broke their phones instead mine.
