I am extremely confused as to why att got this device before tmo. I am a current blackberry pearl user with tmo and have been waiting for the wifi version like the curve ( love the curve, just want smaller form factor like pearl)

Anyway i dont understand why att brought this device to its lineup, the 8110 will be out shortly which would make much more sense as new choice. Tmo has more reason to carry the wifi version.

I guess my real question is can someone shed any light on this. Att really has no business carrying the wifi version just as tmo has no business carrying the gps version of the new pearl.

You don't think TM will get this phone, sooner or later, since Suncom already has it, and they own Suncom, won't take much to add it to their stable.

There's no UMA feature so there is no Wifi calling. So, I'm not sure why you think ATT has no business carrying it for wifi internet purposes.

I am confused on whether TMobile will carry the 8110 or the 8120 though. I'm still leaning to wards the 8120 mainly because Suncom has it in their lineup.

I suspect you will start seeing more wifi capable devices from ATT in light of the deal with Starbucks. TMO lost a great deal in the Starbucks deal. Growth is in data, there is not going to be money in things like UMA. It will be a feature that people will begin to expect but they won't want to pay for it.

Coincidentally this device did have UMA references in its earliest load but subsequent software upgrades removed all references to UMA because ATT doesn't support it. At least not yet...

Its interesting you bring up the switch from tmo to att for starbucks hotspots
I didnt think about the starbucks deal for att. i retract my previous statement about att having no business with wifi phones.

My question to you is, do you think att will pick up the 8110 when it comes out? I thought att was trying to put gps on all of their phones. Would they carry both devices simultaneously?

The 8120 when it went to field trial had GPS. I think it has been disabled with software for the release but I don't know that for certain.
