I tried turning on 5G only on my iPhone 12 Pro Max here in DC. Was astounded to get 600 MB and more just walking around the neighborhood. My nephew told me how to run Field Test. Turns out I’m on Band 66. Is this the repurposed Sprint band?

Band 66 is the expanded band 4, also known as AWS. It's 1,700 MHz paired with 2,100 MHz. More info here:

No, the repurposed Sprint band in question is band 41. I don't think Sprint ever owned any band 4/66.

While 66 may be the primary band your phone is connected to, phones often connect to more than one band simultaneously. The app you're using may not show the add'l bands in use.

In a strictly 4G situation, phones will often use CA (carrier aggregation) to combine multiple bands for faster data. But one band is the primary band that controls the connection.

5G is just now starting to use CA technology to do the same.
