NASA Taps Nokia to Build 4G Network on the Moon
What‽
Come on, man!
But NASA also has the Artemis program to return humans to the moon by 2024. It's one of their major initiatives right now. This will require a lot of automated missions to the lunar surface to test various systems in advance of the crewed missions. This network will support all of those missions.
NASA needs good communication solutions for everything they're doing on the moon. It's better that NASA is using off-the-shelf technologies like LTE instead of creating some custom solution that would cost millions more.
