It'll be here eventually. In the mean time, I'd put money on it that this BB will work with T-Mobile's UMA HotSpot @ home service launching next month. Getting unlimited minutes while near a WiFi router would be priceless for businesses.

I don't think enough people actually "get wi-fi" to see any value in this. Wi-fi is such an overrated feature. The fact that at this point you can only go to unencrypted hot spots to get web access is more inconvenient than anything.

Besides, all the data speed you really need with a blackberry at this point can be provided by 3G Cellular services (yes I know there are no domestic 3G GSM BB models yet) and in most cases 2.5G services (EDGE). Don't forget, it's not like you edit an attachment on a Blackberry anyway.

Very good point about the battery life. Making a phone call and connected to the wifi network at the same time = short talk time.

Gotta love the EVDO BB 8703, or the soon to come 8830 🙂

I think the idea behind VoIP calls using cell phones is quite a good one. This doesn't rule out home wi-fi access points, or even ones at businesses. In the trial for this in the Seattle area, the users get unlimited calls for $20 per month while connected to an access point. Imagine all the businesses that have wireless networks now. You're not even required to get a separate router.. the service works with your own router.

I believe T-Mobile is going to push using their own routers, though, as they are "optimized" to increase battery life, and also prioritize voice calls over the network over other data usage. At least that's what I've heard.

Personally, I'm a huge Blackberry fan, as well as a huge T-Mobile fan, so if this is somet...
