They should have bought ESChat
Too bad Motorola Solutions didn't buy ESChat (www.eschat.com). ESChat's 3G/4G PTT is phenominal.

If I'm not mistaken, Kodiak is the system used by one or more U.S. carriers already. If that's the case, there are going to be contracts and therefore revenue already in place. I've never heard of ESChat. They may have a better system, but Motorola/Lenovo would have to convince carriers to switch platforms and abandon all the hardware already in place in order to get on board. That's much harder than buying an established player and continuing on with agreements that are already in place. And it may be that Kodiak was ready for a sale whereas ESChat wasn't.

All good points. We used ESChat for a full year, it performed much better for us than the local school district got out of it's AT&T Kodiak implementation, which they hated (they had been former Nextel PTT users, so were very disappointed and disgruntled with AT&T's Kodiak-based PTT).
I believe ESChat is a better technical solution than Kodiak in terms of PTT performance, but as you correctly point out, that is only one facet of the larger picture.
