Very simply. When Verizon takes away and another doesn't, that will cause some customers to switch. If enough leave, Verizon will give it back.

I would hope so, but I personally think it would have been easier to leave it as it was than giving customers headaches from switching one company to another. I personally think it was hard enough switching from T-mobile to Verizon and then back to T-mobile (I actually gain money from it) but I wouldn't want to go through that headache again.
