a troll patent firm wins a lawsuit in East Texas Federal Court. Those idiots shouldn't even be allowed to hear Tech or IP Patent cases, as their verdict statements repeatedly show.

And I love how no stories about patent lawsuits actually give the patent number anymore, and sometimes you Really have to search for it, as if they don't want you to read how shady their "patent" really is.

I mean I don't especially like Apple, but I hate some patent trolls even more, at least Apple makes a product.
Apples statement says that Virnetx's patents were previously invalidated by the USPTO, so how the judge can still find in their favor I don't know.

Oh. East Texas.

Patents 6,502,135; 7,490,151; 7,418,514; 7,921,211

For a company with only 112 patents and 75 pending, VirnetX hit a grand slam (chose the right venue, persuaded a jury to make the award, etc.). I despise patent trolls but I still have to shake my head over the ability of this little company to take down Apple and all its resources (at least this time: we will see if it stands on appeal).

Though I really think Apple is getting what they deserve, I agree with you emphatically. If the only choices were to keep things as they are or do away with the patent system entirely, I honestly believe we would be better with no patent system.

The patent system protects people's creations from being stolen. Without a patent system it would just make it easier for the big bad corporations to steal the independent inventors ideas.

If people can't make money off what they worked hard on then there is no incentive to create anything and technological advancement will slow to a crawl.

I'm not familiar with how the patent system fully works, maybe it needs some work, maybe not. But to make it easier to get rich off other peoples ideas is not the solution. But then again, making money off the hard work of others does seem to be the liberal philosophy.

No, it doesn't. The patent system is used to steal the work of others all the time. This website alone is littered with countless articles that show this is the case.

>>Without a patent system it would just make it easier for the big bad corporations to steal the independent inventors ideas.

Or vice versa... which is what you're really concerned about. Who say's you can OWN an idea in the first place. The truly capitalist stance would be the competitive one that throws out all that nonsense about, "I thought of it first so now it's too late for you to think it up."
