This notion that "government oversight" anywhere is an obstruction to freedom is just nuts. The mere fact that a monster anti-consumer (in their actions!) corporation like Verizon is fiercely against it makes me lean for it. I don't have a dog in this politically, DESPISE both parties but I also find it pathetic that the repubelicons & dummycraps almost always have to "fall in" to party line groupthink rather then having original thoughts/opinions on issues like this. It's like "oh wait, that's what my party thinks...... so OK what they said". Pathetic. BTW, we really know we're being screwed when they AGREE on something! Oversight over these vital services like this seem reasonable to me with all the underhanded shady dealings like ex...

Those said "dummy craps and republecons" would be in charge of said oversight.
Please don't ask triple digit IQ people to believe that the people you basically just called idiots can be successful in doing this without some sort of huge corrupt result.

I'm not sure these government agencies are directly related to one party or another most times just as one police department is one party or another or one fire department is one or another, etc. I do think a company like Cable One selling me 50Mbps internet speed, then delivering 5Mbps maximum at all times or my current provider Charter selling me 60Mbps then delivering an average of 20-25Mbps need "a bit of oversight" & a club over the head (in the form of a large fine or worse) if they misadvertise. With both I tried everything I could do with tech support to speed up my connection & tried 4 different routers & different modems. Just a shrug & an "oh well, it is what it is" from them is unacceptable to me. Charter is actually going to...

You keep making this about politicians because they are corrupt, but then ask those politicians to fix the problem.
I just don't think we need an oversight committee or regulatory board so you can understand the term "up to" as in "up to 50 megs". How about a "citizen oversight committee"? How about instead of enforcing monopolies, we let competition run rampant? So you hate company x because they give you crappy service. Instead of promoting more competition by allowing more companies to offer services in your neighborhood why would you want the government to lock down company x's monopoly and "force" them to give you something? Do you really think government will enforce 50 megs for you? Good luck with that.
