Samsung looks it's trying to replace Google services step by step
...
It seems more like they are trying to distinguish themselves from other Android OEM's by offering additional, exclusive apps that can't be obtained through other OEM's.
...
Would you prefer a Samsung mapping app? S-Map, perhaps? 🙂 When it gets you utterly lost, you could yell out, "Oh Smap!"
But I have to wonder if this was a concession Samsung got from MS in exchange for paying licensing fees for MS patents, rather than going to court.
...
I don't care either way about the maps. Just wondering how he things Samsung is taking over Google services when Nokia launches a map app.
...
I think the point is that it is being offered only to Samsung phones, not to Android phones in general, that implies a special deal between Nokia and Samsung. I think Samsung is just trying to distinguish itself from other Android OEM's by offering 'exclusive' apps that aren't available from other OEM's.
...
It does not say it's Samsung exclusive. I would think it would be available or even pre loaded on Nokia devices since they developed the app.
...
Nokia's maps have been available on Windows Phone devices (including Nokia) for quite a while now.
...
Yes, but Nokia doesn't make Android phones. The article specifically says that ONLY Samsung Android phones will be able to get the app, not Motorola, not HTC or ZTE or any other Android OEM, but only Samsung.
...
I can't seem to find in the article where it says that it is exclusive to Samsung or that it won't eventually come out to other types of Android phones. It's already available on windows phones so that means not only available on Samsung Android phones.
Here is the article again, maybe you can point out where it's "specifically" stated:
Nokia recently announced that its HERE Maps product is now available to Samsung's Galaxy smartphones. HERE Maps allows users to download entire countries or regions, which makes the maps available even when the device is offline. Downloaded maps perform faster when panning and zooming since new segments don't need to be loaded from an internet connection. HERE Maps for Galaxy devices include free, voic...

"HERE Maps can be found in the Samsung Galaxy Apps Store"
The Samsung Galaxy Apps Store is not accessible from or available on any other brand of handset. This is different from the Google Play Store. Also if you go to the HERE website it in the Android section it is very clear it's only on Android on Samsung phones.
That its available on Windows phones is irrelevant because the poster said it was Samsung making its Android phones unique, and this clearly makes it unique from other Android phones. Obviously Microsoft is going to make the app from its own division available on its Windows phones. The Samsung is unique from those phones running Windows in that it runs ANDROID.
So unless you're going to try to argue that Windows ph...

Yes, that is exactly what I was saying, thank you.

Nokia said that this app will be available for android and IOS later, but will be in Samsung Phones first

There ya go.
Just because Samsung was first doesn't make them exclusive.
...
Maybe not exclusive, but it still gives Samsung an advantage over its competitors.....being 'the first Android OEM to get all the really cool apps' is an advantage.

This had nothing to do with Microsoft. Nokia still owns Here Maps. They have essentially, as they put it, perfected the WP version and now they are looking to expand that service to other devices. Here Maps is a great service, considering you don't have to pay a thing for it. In many areas, it would give Gmaps a run for their money. It has always worked well for me.
