And no, I don't mean money.
Many independent artists(Adele for example) have not signed licensing deals with Google/Youtube. In retaliation for defying the company, Google/Youtube has decided to not only not offer those artists on its pay service, but to also remove these artists' channels from the FREE Youtube service.
When is someone in the US going to do what the EU has done and investigate ways to break up Google into smaller non-monolithic, non-monopolizing companies?

Here's an article about it.

As far as music is concerned, I'm more concerned about Apple than Google. Apple actually has a policy that an artist or record company cannot offer a promotional price for an album on Amazon which is lower than the price on iTunes. In short, if a record label decides to put certain albums on sale at Amazon for a certain period of time, then the promotional pricing has to be offered at iTunes as well, and if they don't comply, the record label can have all its albums pulled from iTunes. Because of this, Amazon was forced to end its former practice of offering select albums for sale on Wednesdays.

Yeah but those have always been PAY services. What Google is doing is banning independent labels from using the FREE site and removing existing Artist channels as retaliation for not signing deals for the pay service. This isn't even close to what Apple does with guaranteed price matching.
And 10 years ago Youtube's actions would have been a joke, but seeing as Google/Youtube control how about 90% of the world uses internet services, I'd say this is a huge problem. I hope these independent labels file a class action lawsuit.

Wait, you mean Google is choosing not to provide a free outlet for musicians to use for free so that they can setup shop on Google's dime for selling their music? Doesn't Google know that they are entitled to free exposure? HOW AWFUL!

Jeeze people, do we really need to cry out to Mommy Government anytime something doesn't go our way? Gawd what a self-absorbed, juvenile, and pathetic generation this is.

Actually, I'm a 40 year old Anarcho-Capitalist who doesn't like much government in any form. However, when a corporation uses their weight and power to bully people into paying for things that they already get for free, that's pretty much the exact reason the very small government exists: to protect the individual's rights. If pewtiepie, cupcake ladies and tobuscus can get free service to make money then so should independent music labels.
This is basically the first step in making Google/Youtube a completely PAY service. Internet 2.0.
As someone who's been a Libertarian/ Anarcho-Capitalist for 20+ years, I also recognize that government, being a dangerous evil, is also necessary in instances to protect the rights of individuals. So save...
