Almost all of the bans have been of products that neither sells any longer....Samsung got an order for Apple to stop selling the iPad 2 and the iPhone 3GS.. 🙄

If Obama is going to intervene on Apple's behalf, he should intervene to put an end to ALL the bans....

Obama intervened on a ban due to standards essential patents. There is a world of difference between SEP and design patents. SEP are necessary for the products to work and have to be licensed on FRAND terms. Design patents do not have to be licensed. If the company owning a design patent doesn't license it, you just have to use something different. It's not needed to make the product work.

This still provides an unfair advantage to Apple. Essentially, by dropping the ban against Apple it's telling Apple they can use steal not pay for any SEP and the other company has no negotiating rights. Anyone else using the technology pays a fee. Why does Apple get to all of a sudden decide we want to use this, but not pay..

The whole patent system is horrible. Until it gets fixed these bans need to stop. Most of them never hold up anyway. And are just tactics used to hurt competitors.

America, and indeed the entire western world, is badly in need of both patent reform and copyright reform....

The first thing that needs to happen is that all software patents need to be abolished outright, things like 'slide to unlock' should never be given a patent....

And I know it is not related to this specific case, but

We also need to revise copyright law, it has been more thna 50 years since the last time a book, movie or record album was allowed to enter the public domain....that's ridiculous....

We now have copyrights that are being passed as an inheritance, to the second and third generations, give it 20 years and we will have copyrights that have been held by 4 generations....

George Gershwin died in 1937 (76 years...

That irked me too. -_-, but people are too dumb to know the difference. Anything and everything that can get laid on Obama will, just like Bush.

Putting an end to the patent war BS would not be something to 'blame' Obama for, but something to praise him for, SOMEONE needs to step in and put a stop to this BS....

Putting an end to pointless lawsuits which are designed to prevent fair competition would be a pro-business, pro-free market move...

The free market doesn't mean 'no regulation', contrary to myth, the free market means 'no unnecessary regulations'....there's a big difference....

Just as professional sports need referees to enforce the rules and make sure that both teams are playing fairly, so the free market requires regulations to make sure that no one tries to cheat or gain an unfair advantage....regulation to make sure that no one is 'cheating' is essential to the free market...the market cannot be truly free unless and until there is assurance that no one is cheating by trying to unfairly restrict competition...

These lawsuits ...

I agree. I wish more proponents of socialism would come to understand how free markets work and why regulated markets can never work.
