Why is Google doing this? Couldn't they find anyone other than Apple to go in on this? Letting Apple get their hands on even half of any real patents seems like a terrible idea. Unless the deal stipulates that both parties have to agree on suing anyone.

Atleast, if this is true and the go in together, it's something that won't feed the patent wars between the two of them.

As well, the two current leaders will want to stem the competitors (MS and BB) in any way possible.

Lastly... keep your friends close... and your enemies closer.

Yea they are both smart companies. This im guessing will help both companies stay safe from patents in the deal. And microsoft phone sales are up 300% even though that comes out to still be tiny compared to apple and google. Microsoft is throwing a ridiculous amount of resources into pushing their os. So this is another way to keep the duopoly going by making it harder for the others to take some of this huge business.
