Does this mean that its going to use data or is that not going towards your data allotment? If not can skype calls also be data charge free for android and windows phones?
...
Haaahahahah... you're funny you know that ?
Can skype calls also have no data charges, yeah, like AT&T would EVER do that. It's a nice idea though, but it will not happen. Look - AT&T said it was okay to use Facetime, but ONLY with iPhone 5, meaning they are wanting you (or trying to force you) to upgrade to their latest, more expensive device. Greed.
...
I know it sounds dumb the way facetime got passed. But, on the same logic shouldn't skype face-to-face calls be free too? I wonder at their logic some time...
...
Facetime is a feature of the device, whereas Skype is an application. It would never fly!
...
does windows phone get away with it then? skype's built in right?

The Iphone 5 is LTE, which has a whole lot more bandwidth than the 3G tech that the Iphone 4S uses, so therefore the Iphone 5 isles of a burden on the network.
...
That's still not cool that the iPhone 4's or 4s can't use FaceTime without being on wifi or the specific data package. I wish I wasn't pentalized for being grandfathered into the unlimited data package!
...
Heck you're on unlimited data. no complaining...
...
Yeah, I lovvve unlimited 4G LTE on
Verizon!!!
I'm a bored security guard and use my smartphone a whole lot, I even carry spare batteries!

Get an app like Tango. It does the same thing as Facetime, but it's cross-platform, so you can also connect with Android users.
...
yes but tango still uses your data (right?).
...
Well if your grandfathered in with unlimited data you wouldn't have to worry about that.
...
I haven't seen any indication that Facetime won't use data.

This thread is pretty funny. The Facetime on the iPhone is a feature built in but its an App you open just like everything you do on your phone, this feature will definitely use data its not free so even tho you are being allowed to use Facetime on your phone guess what you are going to eat up your 3GB of data you have with ATT like nothing. Video calls use huge amounts of data just like video streaming. So sure youll get access but guess what on ATT's network youll rack up those overages quick so good luck with that ;). The reason it was only available on WiFi before was mainly because of quality of video during a call and also because of the amount of bandwidth and strain it would put on ATT's network. 🙂 Skype is the same thing with a few...
