What kind of a fanboy do you have to be to think that the only way someone could not like Android is if he is stupid?

I generally like Android as far as it goes, not so much as a smartphone OS but it is a good tablet OS....nevertheless it has several flaws that become clear with repeated use, such as the complete lack of 'profiles' to control the sound made when you receive notifications, if you want to make it so that you can hear when a phone call or a text message arrives, but not hear when an email arrives, it is insanely difficult to set it up exactly the way you want it, whereas most phones make it easy by allowing you to set up 'profiles'. If someone thinks that one of these flaws makes Android not the right operating system for ...

First off, RIM is nowhere near the bankruptcy level yet, they are still earning a profit, albeit a smaller one than in previous years, and they sold 50 million Blackberry devices in 2011....if you're selling 50 million a year, you are nowhere near done yet.

But what I don't get is why people think it would be a good idea for RIM to adopt Android....it frankly makes no sense, the problems are manifold:

Blackberries would cease to be a distinctive product and would become nothing more than a me too also ran with nothing unique to offer

It would be a gigantic clusterfark for Blackberry users to stop using Blackberry services and Blackberry apps and adopt Google services and Google apps...

So...no more Blackberry messenger...you'd ha...

Agreed. But B10 IS a different OS. What happens if some Blackberry users are not satisfied with it?

Assuming that it is basically the Playbook OS modified for a phone I don't think that will be an issue, it is similar enough to the traditional Blackberry OS that it won't confuse longtime users, and is a lot more stable and powerful.

I agree that the traditional Blackberry OS has gone about as far as it can, but the question is whether the next path is a refresh that keeps the basic Blackberry feel while modernizing it for the 21st century, which is what Blackberry 10 is, or to completely scrap everything and start over from square one, which is what Android would be. I think the latter is simply out of the question.

WTH?
They are rethinking their business strategy to stay afloat
What do you cal laying off 2000 people? All the top management changes that have been happening?
Rebuild their OS? What do you call the announced BB10 which will be based in QNX?
Adapt Android? 🤣 No question that would send them into bankruptcy. Makes Rim completely faceless and irrelevant.

T Bone mentioned the rest elsewhere. This company is fighting every step of the way to stay around and profitable.

They have so much extra cash lying around it would take them a long time to go bankrupt. Long before then someone wo...

I'd like to see Rim develop a game changer that trumps apple.
