Moving/ Removing Phone-Email-Application Widgets

Hello all---
After many weeks of playing with this phone, I still can't figure out any way to re-arrange or remove the bottom row of widget/shortcuts (phone, email, web, and application.) I'd just like them in a different order... (maybe removing the web one for Skyfire...)

any ideas???
you have to go to Applications then hit the menu button and hit then view type and change them to "customizable grid." Then you go back to the apps and hit the menu button and hit edit. Once you get here you can scroll through the apps and drag what...

TEXT MESSAGES GONE WILD

I took a look at my phone in the morning when I was getting ready for work and it shows I sent out text messages to people when I was in the shower. The messages were repeats of things I sent the night before which was so odd. I was wondering how this happened and if this has happened to anybody else. If so how can I fix this so it never ever happens again.
Sounds like a personal problem.

How do I Sync my Gmail Groups on my Phone's Contact List?

I recently bought a new Samsung Captivate Android phone and it's surpassed my expectations in almost every respect. However, I have all of my Gmail contacts segregated into groups (Friends, Family etc.) but on the phone it shows -0- in the Friends and Family groups and 1000 contacts in "Google". Does anyone know how to sync my Gmail groups with my phone contact groups?
The Gmail application in 2.2 does this. I don't think there is any way to do it in 2.1 without using a 3rd party application.

Random shutdowns

I've had my Captivate for just under a month and for some reason it's randomly powering off. This happens even when the battery has 50% or more charge left in it. I did a factory reset using a star code Samsung gave me that wiped both the built in memory card and the internal RAM/ROM on the phone and reset the phone to its out of the box state but the phone still randomly shuts off! This is really aggravating. I don't want to do a warranty exchange through AT&T unless there's a 100% guarantee that Samsung has fixed this problem because the refurb will likely only have a 90 day warranty on it. Does anyone know what the cause of this problem is and how to permanently fix it?
If you are within the first 30 days then you should be able to return it for a brand new one for free. Not 100% sure but it would surprise me if it werent. Act quick before time runs out.

I had the same problem with my phone, but it only shut down about once a week or so.
I called AT&T customer service to report the problem, and they sent me a new battery, although they pretty much admitted they didn't know the root cause. I did have ...

AT&T Family Map android application

If somebody uses ATT Family Map service you may like this application. Search market for AT&T Family Map.
New name on Android market is "Family Locator(A)". I had to change it because of ATT complained about trademark infringement.

Exchange

Hello -

A friend of mine got this phone and said he was able to get his Exchange account to work with it.

The problem is when he adds anything to his calendar from the phone it doesnt sync back to his exchange mailbox. However, if he does it from his Outlook it does sync to the phone.

Is there a setting in there for that?

Thanks in advance.

Email Help

Is there a way to change the settings so that a copy of any emails I send from the phone is automatically saved in the sent folder on my computer? My blackberry does this & I love that about the blackberry! At the end of the day I get on my laptop & filter my sent emails to the appropriate folders. The captivate however doesn't save a copy to my sent folder other than the one on the phone itself, that or I just can't find the setting to enable that. Any suggestions?

Before I return the Captivate, please help

First off, the screen on this device is OUTSTANDING. I haven't seen anything quite like it. Also, the phone is thin and light, and battery will last two days at least even with moderate use.

Now, my issues are these... WTF did Samsung do to Android??? The only thing I can think of to describe it is neutering. Most of what I consider stock widgets, like analog clock, are absent. Even after replacing the Touch Wiz UI, they do not reappear.
Also, you can only check for software updates once in a 24 hour period. Kinda puzzled by this one.
Having the power key on the side takes getting use to.
The four touch keys at the bottom usually take two - three presses to register.

I am asking for assistance in how to bring about a more va...

I think you are forgetting why this phone is so great, it is fully customizable. Which means you can make it act and look like whatever you want. If you want the digital clock, then just add one. There are many on the market..try this one: http://w...

Download an alternative launcher from the marketplace (I use ADW, but LauncherPro is also popular)

Remove ALL icons and widgets from your touchwiz homescreens and then set the alternative launcher as a default.

kind of interesting....

The 16gb of built in storage on the captivate comes by way of an sd card that can't be removed. Is this common for manufactures?
you can't remove it, but you can un-mount it.

never heard of any other phones doing this, and i work in the biz.

Ringer Volume

How's the ringer volume on the phone? I was playing with it in the ATT Store and I wasn't overly impressed. Maybe it was too much noise in there when I tested it. I loved everything else about it though except there is no flash for the camera.
It's simply not that loud. somthing i've gotten over. Phone flashes are pretty useless anyway.

What is rooting and how to do it?

Rooting is easy, very easy even by Android standards. Then download Titanium backup and remove the bloat. And if you want, download the sql editor and change a file to allow off market apps. (sideloading).

As far as filtered AT&T apps on the market, two ways of dealing with this, both simple. 1. put the phone in airplane mode, then turn wifi on. You can get at any app in the marketplace. This is what I do. 2. Download marketenabler, pick TMO USA, the market will think you're on TMO and not AT&T, both are good. I use 1.

Apps auto-running

Why is it that every time I bring up 'App Killer' it shows that the Messaging widget is running? Sometimes the Clock widget is running also.

How can I get these services to stop starting up in the background?
Go to settings, Data Sync turn off Auto-sync
& Background data. This will also increase batt life to 10-11 hrs., with normal use. 😎
