Boost Mobile and Samsung today announced the Galaxy Prevail, a new CDMA-based smartphone for Sprint's prepaid network. Here are our first thoughts on this cute little Android phone.

Boost Mobile introduced today what it calls its first CDMA smartphone, the Samsung Galaxy Prevail. The Prevail is a teensy little Android smartphone that is sure to entice the pre-paid crowd.

Prevail

The Prevail is a small, slab-style phone, and has a smallish (3.2-inch) touch display. It's not the thinnest handset ever, but it is small enough that it is comfortable to use, hold, and carry about. The display isn't the largest or most pixel-dense, but it looks good for what it is.

The shape is somewhat boxy, but the soft-touch paint job really feels good in the hand. The corners are far from sharp, but there's still enough girth to let you know that it is there.

The controls along the edges — volume toggle, power/lock key, etc., all worked well on the handful of units we tested at the event. They were easy to find and had good travel and feedback.

As for the user interface, the Prevail runs stock Android 2.2 Froyo. The Prevail runs an 800MHz processor, and felt very speedy. In the few moments that I spent playing with the phone, it felt zippy and fast, and I noticed no lag at all. All the typical user interface elements were there and worked flawlessly.

In sum, the Prevail is a decent little phone that is more than worth its $180 price tag and measly $50 voice/data plan. In other words, for the money, you can do a whole heckuva lot worse.

Flash?

Do we know if it will support Adobe Flash? I know it has the specs for it, but several of Samsung and LG's devices had the hardware but never got Flash.

Anyone know the answer to this?
Based on this article he answer is NO: http://www.intomobile.com/2011/04/05/handson- samsung-galaxy-prevail-boost-mobile/

But I don't get it.. I have an HTC Hero with an older processor and it has flash. Maybe this will change later on.

I will start off the mature discussion of this phone by saying

Eww, it looks like an Instinct!
And not that travesty of a "smartphone" platform used for the m800 series.

As a Boost customer, I'm actually excited about this baby...
