for the Nokia 6585:
good RF, good sound quality, small package
I'm reviewing this phone activated on Verizon Wireless. The RF performance is very good. It seems comparable to the 3589i even though it does not have an extendable antenna. The sound quality is quite good. Significantly better than the 3589i which puts too much emphasis on the bass and can make some callers hard to understand. The maximum speaker volume is not nearly as loud as the 3589i, but it is still acceptably average (plus the phone has a speakerphone ...

for the Nokia 6820 / 6820i:
excellent
I am reviewing the GSM 900/1800/1900 version of the 6820. The RF performance on GSM 1900 is excellent. It rivals the Nokia 6310i. Unlike the Nokia 6200 and 7210, the sound quality is also very good. The speaker volume is nice and loud. This is a series 40 class 2 EDGE phone with Bluetooth. I typically see about 70-95Kbps on the AT&T GSM/EDGE network here in Seattle. It connected flawlessly with my Mac Powerbook G4 without any special effort. The screen is ...

for the Sony Ericsson Z600:
finally - a good SE phone
The RF performance of this phone on GSM 1900 is excellent. It actually rivals the best Nokias. Sound quality is good - a little high pitched and harsh, but the reproduction is good. Of course, the phone has Bluetooth and 4+1 GPRS. It works well for data and syncs nicely with a Macintosh using isync. I've been avoiding SE phones for the last couple of years due to issues with RF performance, but finally here is an SE phone which I is ...

for the Nokia 3589i / 3587i:
great reception
First and foremost, this phone has great RF performance and good audio quality. The fact that it has both an internal and external antenna means that it seems to do better at receiving calls in low signal areas than many Verizon phones. I've also used it for EN/1xRTT connectivity with my laptop. It works quite well with a USB cable. I wish it had Bluetooth (oh well) Annoyances: 1. The left and right cursor keys bring up the mobile web browser and ...

for the Samsung SCH-i600 / SP-i600:
buggy software and horrible reception
The software is so buggy as to make the phone almost unusable. I have to reset it too many times due to mysterious lock ups. Much of the functionality does not work as advertised, and I missed some calls because it was in some weird state (needed a reset) just sitting in my pocket. I ended up having to say, "sorry I didn't get your call. I needed to reboot my phone" The RF performance is also horrible. Compared to ...

for the Nokia 3600:
Great phone
Well, here it is, a phone with the excellent sound quality and the RF performance of the Nokia 3650, but is dual band GSM 850/1900 for maximal North American coverage. Cons: - Only class 6 GPRS (3+1) which means it is somewhat slower for data transfers than many other GPRS phones - keypad takes some getting used to - size and weight - cannot take a data cable (doesn't matter much) Pros: - It has a huge extensible featureset. There is lots of great Series ...

for the Nokia 6200:
Excellent
The RF performance of this phone is comparable to the Nokia 6590i and 6310i, in other words about as good as it gets - better than the Nokia 7210 and much better than the Nokia 6100 and Motorola T720. I've done side by side comparisons against various other phones on the AT&T GSM 1900 network here in Seattle testing both incoming and outgoing audio in places with marginal signal - the 6200 is an excellent performer. Speaker volume is nice ...

for the Nokia 6310i:
almost perfect
This phone has almost everything. The RF performance and sound quality are excellent. It has lots of data connectivity options: IR, bluetooth, and serial cable. It is tri-band GSM 900/1800/1900. The speaker volume is good enough for noisy environments. Battery life is superb. The display is large and easy to read under pretty much all lighting conditions. As an added bonus, it can use most of the Nokia 61xx series accessories. It could be smaller (but note that it is ...

for the Nokia 8390:
almost a great phone
I have an unlocked 8390 from cellpoint and have used it with both AT&T GSM and Voicestream. pros - good reception. I've tested the outgoing and incoming audio against several other GSM phones in marginal signal conditions. It does quite well even with its internal antenna. better than any other internal antenna phone I tested and better than some phones with external antennas (even better than the samsung N105 which so many people seem impressed with, certainly considerably better than Ericsson ...

for the Ericsson T66:
very light and small. mediocre reception. lacks advanced data features.
pros - very light and small. makes the Nokia 8390 feel large and heavy (but about the same thickness) - good audio quality - good user interface. similar to the R520/T39/T68 except the menus are a bit faster - good speaker volume - excellent ringer volume cons - GSM1900 reception is inferior to the Nokia 8390. Slightly better than the T68m or the R520m with the original antenna (but not as good as the R520m/IAT-10 combo) - no GPRS - no IR - no bluetooth - battery life isn't as ...

for the Ericsson T68:
horrible reception
This phone is going back to the store. Good points: The colour screen is very nice. The user interface is actually quite good. It has multiple connectivity options, and they all work flawlessly (cable, IR, bluetooth). However, I'm still returning it because the reception is horrible. I can't place calls where other AT&T GSM phones work well. In addition, there is a buzzing noise coming out of the speaker whenever I place a call in an area where the phone ...

for the Siemens S46:
not bad
GSM 1900 reception on this phone is very good. TDMA reception is about average, on par with the Motorola V60. The previous reviewer is correct, the phone has a tendency to hold on to an unusable GSM signal, when a strong TDMA signal is present. Fortunately one can switch the phone to "TDMA only" mode for those situations. Audio quality is about average. The speaker volume isn't really loud enough for noisy environments and there is a fair amount of ...
