for the LG VX-8550 Chocolate:
Sweet Black Cherry Chocolate!
I am new to Verizon, and the black cherry Chocolate phone has been wonderful so far. PROS --Great reception --Loud earpiece volume --Intuitive UI --Has a separate In Case of Emergency category in red for your contacts. --Vibrating keys CONS --The only con is the battery life

for the Motorola V551 / V330 / V547 / V555 / V557:
V557 Review
I've had this phone for a couple of weeks now, and it's a great phone! It has all the features you'd want (like bluetooth, camera, video, EDGE), but even if you just make and receive calls, it does that well too. PROS: --Great reception --Excellent call/voice quality --EDGE data speed --Side volume keys for calls and ringtones --Bright display --Good size keys CONS: --Included rings are lame, I had to download a normal ring (the Continental is too high-pitched and will strip the paint off the walls). ...

for the Nokia 6030:
6030 is Great
Nokia has done it again--provided simplicity and fun in a nice, small black phone called the 6030. If you've been thinking about getting this one, go for it! PROS: --GoTo options are customizable. --Right soft key and navigation key are customizble. This avoids the ever-annoying mistake of getting into the Media Mall unintentionally. --Great reception and usual Nokia quality. --Sharp, crisp display. --Excellent battery life. --Nice compact size. --Much better looking than the 6010. --Good speakerphone. CONS: --Only one, and this is probably Cingular's fault, ...

for the LG C1500:
It's OK . . .
Got the phone a few days ago, and I like it fine for a free phone. PROS: Reception is excellent. Call quality great. Price (free) is right. Display bright and easy to see. Side volume keys--hard to find on low-end phones but IMO ought to be on any phone. Hot key for setting ring tone/volume. Compact and easy to carry in purse or pocket. CONS: Battery life, as others have mentioned. It needs charging every couple of days. Ringers not very loud. Ringtones included are lame. ...

for the Nokia 3220:
Love the 3220
Nokia's done it again with the 3220--provided a reliable, fun candybar phone that's sure to please. PROS: --Nokia user interface, always a pleasure --Usual excellent battery life and reception --Very compact, easy to fit in pockets and purses --Handy Go To menu that lets you access the menu items you use most, like changing profiles or starting a message --Customizable soft keys --Plenty of ringtones and wallpapers --Lights are cool CONS: --Back cover not easy to put back on sometimes I haven't ...

for the Motorola RAZR V3:
So far it's awesome!
I've had a black RAZR for almost a week now, and I love it! Pros: Reception is the best I've ever had. Voice quality is as good as any land line. I love the big display. Looks cool. Nice wallpapers/backgrounds. Cons: I actually don't like the thinness much, it's hard to get my big fingers around it. Can't store one-digit speed dial #s on the SIM card, have to copy it to the phone memory to do this. Overall: I don't use many of ...

for the Nokia 2651:
A Bit Disappointed
This could have been a nice venture into flip phones for Nokia. While you can usually count on Nokia for good reception, this one had more Motorola-like mediocre reception. PROS: --Easy to use --Unique design --Nice ringtones --Better contrast on backgrounds and letters --Don't have to remove battery to change SIM. CONS: --Reception only so-so (not up to Nokia standards). --No external caller ID. It's a cutie, and if the reception had been better, I would have loved it.

for the Nokia 6340i:
Still Love the 6340i
Yes, I know it's not the latest or greatest. It's not a flip, color, or camera phone. But it still works well for making calls and text messaging. If you just want a phone and not an entertainment complex, this one is still a great. PROS: --Nokia's usual ease of use --Excellent reception --Practically indestructible! --Good basic ringers (I don't care about mp3 ringers, just want a ring-ring) --Side volume keys --Can easily see in direct sunlight, also don't ...

for the Motorola V180 / V186 / V188:
Has Potential But . . .
PROS: --Speakerphone --Nice display --Nice Moto UI and menus --Light and small --I liked the design and black color. CONS: --First one's mic didn't work, so had to get another one; inconsistent quality. --Reception was only adequate. A nice entry-level phone, but Motorola seems to be having QA/QC issues with this and other models. Hopefully they'll get back to the drawing board and fix the issues.

for the Samsung SGH-X426 / SGH-X427:
Nice First Samsung!
Just got this phone, and already I like it. It's my first Sammy. PROS: --Reception is very good. --Call quality is clear. --Nice compact size. --Ringtone volume is good. --Clamshell design. CONS: --Can't seem to find a way to keep text messaging from defaulting to T9, but I'll have to read the manual :-) --No external caller ID, but this is remedied by setting it on answering delay. --Included ringtones are strange, but there are a couple of actual rings on there, and you can download others. This ...

for the Nokia 3595:
Nice Entry-Level Phone!
This is good for basic users or for a back-up phone. PROS: --Reception is great. --Easy-to-use Nokia menus. --Loud ringtones. --All around good phone CONS: --Voice quality can be a bit muffled, but it's OK. --No speakerphone (not a huge deal, can get an earbud) --Cheesy ringtones, why can't they put more normal rings on these phones (not just Nokia, but other manufacturers as well) Overall, a good buy, I'd recommend it for a good lower-end phone.

for the Nokia 6010:
Great Entry-Level Phone!
I have the 6010 as a spare, back-up phone, but it's the one I reach for when going out to the sticks and needing great reception! PROS: --Excellent reception --Great voice quality --Easy Nokia menus/interfaces --Corrects the weird keypad of the 3595 CONS: --No speakerphone (but you can get an earbud, not a real biggie) --Really no other cons! Bottom line: You can't go wrong with this phone, whether you get it for back-up or as your primary phone.

for the Sony Ericsson Z500:
I LOVE IT!!
This phone rocks! PROS: --Excellent reception, actually rivals some Nokias I have. --Great display --Nice ringtones and free ones available at sonyericsson.com --Bigger size; some see this as a con, but I like slightly bigger phones. CONS: --Some menus aren't intuitive, but nothing I can't figure out or find in the manual. --Battery life isn't great, but heck, I have electricity, so I can charge it often.

Apr 12, 2005, 5:29 AM
for the LG L1400 / C1400:
Pretty Good Phone
The L1400 is a good phone but with a few things to bear in mind: PROS: --Very clear display --Easy-to-use menus and shortcuts --Big keys (a plus for those with bigger fingers --Camera works well. CONS: --Just so-so reception (LG can't seem to get the same reception as Nokia, Moto, and SE) --Bad ringtones--why can't they put cool ones on there like the ones on their CDMA phones? Overall it's a good phone. A bit pricey for not having bluetooth, but fine. I'd recommend it.

for the Nokia 3600:
I love my 3600!
I'm a latecomer to this phone, having bought it off e-bay and knowing it's not the latest, greatest, but I absolutely love it! PROS: --Great reception that Nokia is known for --Voice quality is tops --Long battery life --Speakerphone is great --Camera & bluetooth (haven't tried BT yet) --Customizable menus --Big, readable display --Size (many think that's a con, but I like a big phone) CONS: --None I can't believe Cingular discontinued this phone, luckily GMS works with just popping in my SIM. All in all, a wonderful phone ...

for the Motorola V260 / V262:
Great phone!
Pros: This phone has great reception. Ringtones are fun and loud enough to hear. Good value Cons: Some menus are a bit confusing (getting text out of ITAP mode for example), but reading the manual remedied this. Screen could be a bit bigger.

for the Nokia 3589i / 3587i:
Excellent Phone!
This is such a bargain (99 cents for the 3587i with 2-yr contract with Alltel)! Pros: Excellent reception and sound quality Easy to use, intuitive menus Very readable fat text Cons: No speakerphone Ringtones a bit cheesy, but I can live with it I can't say no camera or bluetooth is a con since I'm not big on those anyway, and since this is not in that league of phone--you have to rate it for what it is. And it gets the job done well, ...

for the Kyocera SE47 / SE44 / V5 (Slider):
SE44 Slider for Alltel--Nice
This is a really neat phone. Pros: Nice ringtones Compact design Excellent reception Cons: So-so battery life Slider gets annoying Flush keypad is tough Screen is a bit dim All in all, it's a fun little toy, but I ended up taking it back because the slider got on my nerves. I'd recommend it if you like the slider though.

for the LG C1300 / G4015:
Nice Entry-Level Color Flip But Some Problems
This is a decent phone. I got it when we switched to GSM. Pros: Small size (some might think this is a con) Nice color display Easy to use Can download actual song bits for ringtones (MP3s or SuperTones, not sure which) Cons: Lackluster ringtones So-so reception Had to replace after 2 months (it wouldn't charge anymore)

Oct 13, 2004, 5:44 AM
for the Nokia 3100 / 3120:
Great Little Phone
The 3100 is a nice little phone for the money. No, it doesn't have bluetooth or a camera, but it's in the less expensive price range also, can't deduct points for that. I feel I need to rate it for what it is and not compare it to higher-end phones. So here's my 2 cents: Pros: The battery life is amazing, the reception is very good, and the ringtones are pretty nice. Generally it has ...
