Re: Symbian^3... better or worse than S60?

I wouldn't put so much weight on Eric's review here. Read other reviews first; some from Symbian site, some from site typically pro Android and pro iPhone. This is not 5th Edition (S^1). It looks like it, which I appreciate, but a lot has been addressed. S^4 is not a continuation of anything by the way. It's a clean break from the past, however, any Qt created apps for S^3 will be able to run on S^4, so you ...

Re: N97 vrs N95, what´s better?
Feb 1, 2010, 5:30 PM
in the Nokia N97 forum

Well, it's a different phone. Just looking at the N97, it looks like a darn good choice for an upgrade. But it's not the case. I've got both, and have had the N97 for 6 months. Here's where the N97 is better than the N95: - Call quality. - Battery and battery life. - Audio quality through 3.5mm jack. - It's thinner. - QWERTY (albeit an odd layout) - It's got a camera lens cover, with problems that may or may not have been resolved ...

This is for the PhoneScoop guys if they see this or anybody else who's had a hands on. Any idea how the speakers are? Are they better than the N97? Are they like the ones on the N95 in terms of loudness and ability to play music well?

"Mobile adapted browser experience." Hahaha. I'm gonna go out on a limb and say you don't know much about Nokia's. The N97 browser is wonderful. There's no multi-touch on the N97, but honestly, it's not necessary, and I've never found myself saying I wish it were there. Web pages load quickly and as you would see them on a computer, unless for some reason the website kicks you over to a mobile version. Websites detect things like that. It's ...

Better? First off, you're talking about two different types of phones here. If you had asked about the i8910 Omnia HD and 3GS, then I could tell you the i8910 would be the better choice by far. However, it doesn't have US 3G yet. So, better in this case depends on what you're looking for in a phone. If you value having a physical keyboard and a great camera, then the N97 is your phone. Do you want a ...

I just sent mine in two days ago to the warranty repair center in Alabama. Turns out the camera cover is scratching the lens everytime its opened and closed. I've heard lots of people experiencing the same things. It's very similar to the look of the 6500 Slide scratches on the keypad. I'll let you guys know what happens with that when I finally get my phone back.

I too am a huge fan of S60. My feeling however is that as long as they don't ruin the homescreen, including its customization, which is the one reason I happen to like S60, then I'm okay with the change. Active Idle is something I can't live without. But if they morph it into widgets like with the N97, then that's fine by me as well. I just hope they don't make it look like Android or iPhone OS. ...

I am absolutely sick of people who constantly say, just get an iPhone. You probably don't even own this phone, so why are you even talking here. I will never buy another Apple product, especially an iphone. If I wanted an all touch device I'll get an omnia hd. I can't stand Apple's OS, their designs, their name, and people who talk it up like it's the greatest thing ever made. This is my 5th Nokia in the last ...

The keyboard layout itself is fine. I have no problems with the spacebar where it is. But my issue is with the tactile feed back of the rows themselves. I understand you feel the feeback you get is serviceable, but do you feel a major difference with the middle row and the top and bottom rows? Doesn't the middle row have a distinct click to each key, that you can feel, minus the enter key? Don't the top and ...

Just got mine in yesterday and have been playing around with it non stop, but it looks like it's going back for another one. Hey, I just got my N97 in from Amazon. It's the NAM version, RM-507. I was very disappointed to see it has the made in China label, since my opinion of Chinese made products has never been a good one. Upon inspecting the phone, I happen to notice a few things. 1) The SIM card ...

I wouldn't bet on that happening at all. Look at the prices of the top tier of Nseries phones. The N96 on average is still $600, and that's been out for some time now. The deal that Amazon was having, $603.99, which I jumped on, and am still patiently waiting for my phone, is the best price I think you're going to see for a lot longer than 2 months based on what I'm seeing with the pricing of ...

I just read your review Omagus. I have one question, and it pertains to your keyboard gripe about constantly having to use CTRL. You how in the E71, and N95, if you hold down the letter with the number you want to type on it, it types the number without having to hit CTRL?? Like if you want to write 2, you press and hold the Y key on the E71 and it types 2. The N97 doesn't do ...

That's not good. I've heard about this sort of thing happening to a few people. But as the RIM CEO once said "Nobody gets it perfect out the door." I hope mine turns out okay. If it doesn't, I guess I'll either return it or most likely wait for the initial firmware update which will solve most issues.

Anybody who buys an E71x make sure you disable packet data!!
Jun 17, 2009, 9:10 PM
in the Nokia E71 / E71x forum

Anybody who buys an E71x needs to go into their settings > connection > packet data > packet data connection, and change it from "when available" to "when needed." I don't know why at&t constantly does this with Nokia's smartphones, but they do. I know some people complained about battery life of the phone not being what they thought, at least from reading reviews on at&t's website. That packet data connection constantly being live will eat your battery up. ...

Yet another example of how government is pushing the door of the private sector farther and farther open. I really hope this doesn't get passed. It completely undermines the entire concept of capitalism. The ability of the carriers to have exclusive rights to certain models creates that atmosphere of competition and drives these companies into making better decisions on what devices they're going to need to not only keep their existing customers but to gain new ones. Not only ...

Take your thumbnail and push the release button at the bottom of the phone, on the side where the back cover ends. You should hear a pop/click type sound and the cover should come up on one side. Do the same with the other side and there you have it. To put it back in, just push back down on either side at the bottom where the release buttons are and you'll hear two clicks letting you know its ...

E71x vs E71
May 11, 2009, 5:21 PM
in the Nokia E71 / E71x forum

So now that AT&T and Nokia finally worked something out to get another phone in AT&T's lineup, this begs the question, is it worth it? So let's see... For the E71x, for $99.99 on contract, on the positive side you S60 FP2, a better camera, and no camera shutter sound when warning tones are off. On the negative side you get an E71 with only a data cable, battery, and charger, no more one-touch keys with dual functions, no homescreen ...

Backing up phone memory to microsd card problem
Dec 15, 2008, 10:50 PM

Okay, so i noticed this one awhile ago but i had to test my theory to see if it holds true. You know when you're typing something and the word you want doesn't exist? You add the word to the phone and continue so next time the word is there for you and you don't have to manually enter each letter. Well, as it turns out on my N95-3 firmware v20 when you do a phone backup on to ...

True. You know, after seeing AT&T release the iPhone untouched, I figured, surely someone like Nokia would be able to get the same treatment, but I'm still waiting for that to happen. I'm not gonnna hold my breath though. AT&T is bending over backwards for someone who never even had a name in the cell phone industry. Such crap. Guess I'm sticking to unlocked phones unless they happen to release the E71 untouched, which from the looks of some ...

AT&T hopes for a single OS

Hey, just wanted to see what others thought about this, or if you haven't heard about it, you might want to see this. http://www.pcworld.com/article/154978/ata ndt_hopes_for_single_smartphone_os.html I found this lying around on gsmarena, and it's probably been on here too. Apparently AT&T hopes to standardize on a single OS for AT&T branded smartphones. Now when I heard this I went nuts. The article goes on to say that WinMo looks like its getting the boot, and Symbian looks to be the ideal ...

Re: video resolution
Dec 5, 2008, 1:42 AM

you probably have to open the camera application. switch to video, then go into options, go to settings, and in there should be a setting to change the video resolution probably "video quality" or something. The settings might be something stupid like "High" or "Normal". They couldn't tell you "320x240" 15FPS. No, that makes too much sense.

6650 vs N75
Dec 5, 2008, 1:37 AM
in the Nokia 6650 fold forum

Anybody else think that maybe, just maybe the N75 was better than this?? I really want to like this phone, but its difficult, especially when everybody is talking about how its replacing the N75. When I hear about a replacement for something, I think, okay, I'm going to see a better product than the last one. So, what did we get here? We got the same AT&T junkware and usual crippling, and they made sure that you had to ...

What happened to the menu key like on the 5800?
Dec 2, 2008, 5:47 PM

Re: First
Dec 2, 2008, 5:39 PM
in the Article: Nokia World 2008 forum

All I can say is wow. There's only a couple things that bother me, like how those three keys on the face are designed, and how small the stereo speakers are, and how the N97 logo should be where it normally is on an Nseries device, and I'm not sure about the tilt display or how it will hold up, but damn, this is amazing. I hope that they make a US specific version with 850/1900.

Re: Att should pick these phones up
Dec 1, 2008, 11:33 PM

I agree and disagree. If AT&T would release this phone untouched, with all the regular package contents, but locked to AT&T's network, and I'll even accept AT&T branding on it somewhere and I'd be all for it. But we all know that Nokia is not Apple, and this certainly would never happen in our lifetimes. That being said, they'd pack the phone with their crapware making firmware updates useless, pull the microSD card, headphones, and video cable out of ...

Why not just give us a firmware update?
Apr 29, 2008, 3:02 PM
in the Nokia N75 forum

I don't know if anybody else feels the same way about this as I do, but I think it's total crap that AT&T doesn't offer the rest of us a firmware update which will give us the features of the "Tab Top." Instead they offer it as a different version of the same phone. Now while I still don't truly understand this "Tab Top" setup, I would gladly take a firmware update. yeah, i cracked the LCD on mine when i dropped the phone with the fold open. Sounds like you need to send it in to Nokia and have it looked at. It cost me $105 to have my main display LCD replaced and shipped back to me.

Anybody really test the A2DP?
Feb 20, 2008, 12:50 AM
in the Nokia N75 forum

I was wondering if anybody has really had any experience with the A2DP on the unbranded or debranded versions of this phone. My concern is that it really doesn't work that well, and that may be why AT&T removed it. I read some review somewhere where somebody said it was really choppy on their unbranded version.
